You aware that he is not in fact the driving creative force between Zeldas made after Twilight Princess, right? He wasn't in charge of Ocarina of Time either. That was Toru Osawa and Miyamoto. His only games as the leading creative was Majora's Mask, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. If you think the handheld games or the post-Skyward Sword Zeldas have been disappointing in their vibe, it's not his fault. It's because a guy named Daiki Iwamoto took over since the Nintendo DS games, and he hates Tetra from Wind Waker, and he didn't want it to be "too Zelda-like" so he made Spirit Tracks. Despite Aonuma trying to address internal concern that the Train was a shit concept for a Zelda game, Iwamoto kept insisting on it. In fact, Aonuma wanted him to use Wind Waker's world again and give Tetra more screen time but Iwamoto hates Tetra.
The other person is Hidemaro Fujibayashi. He worked at Capcom and wrote on the story for the GBC Zelda games and Minish Cap. He also ended up co-directing the Nintendo DS games, and then became the new "Aonuma" on Skyward Sword. That gave him the keys to make BotW. He is now in charge of "Mainline Zelda" and think all Zelda is about is "Fun & Creativity".
The only reason BotW feels better than Skyward Sword is because of Aonuma's influence. And the reason Tears of the Kingdom started to feel more Skyward Swordy again, is because Aonuma is transitioning his role as "Series Producer" to Iwamoto and Fujibayashi.
They're the creatives behind the "slop" era of Zelda, not Aonuma-san.
