No, they started off making a Sonic fangame(Sonic Smackdown) and got a lot of it done made a patreon(not allowed with fangames) got shit on by the community for potentially fucking everyone over(same happened with the Sonic Omens dev) since Sega or at least Sonic Team are generally cool with fan projects.
They finished Smackdown and started work on their own original they could use Patreon for.
Never really heard much from them since until today

They released Head2Head, but it flopped hard. For a bit they even wanted to go from being free in "early access" and then like, $10 paid for full, but that got reverted before too long. As far as Sonic Smackdown goes, it's weird actually. They kept silently messing around with Sonic Smackdown's availability multiple times. Like sometimes you could only go to SS's page, sometimes it was only USS's page, sometimes it was USS being hosted on SS's page, it was weird, and I couldn't easily find anything in their d*scord announcements or twitter to explain it. Honestly thought they were never going to update it again, especially since they instead continued to host style and parsec tourneys for the original version.

I'm really surprised they haven't made a rhythm game yet considering that the music is one of the things that's universally liked.
Maybe they'll do it when the Project Sekai money well starts running dry and they're desperate. Not happening anytime soon though.

It's clear they're going to be expanding later on. The original Sonic Smackdown had quite a few characters (even if a lot of them seemed to reuse moves between each other) and Rouge is on the artwork for this game.
