That's a shame, but I think I know what you mean. I used to think the same way - even demoting it in my personal SH rankings because it was the progenitor of the "muh personal trauma". But after a later replay I realized that judging something great based on poor imitations was a dumb way of thinking.

not overrated in the sense that it's a fantastic game that has had a cultural impact (an incredible achievement) and deserves the praise.
it is however over-exaggerated and over-analysed by people for sure, so there is some fatigue that comes from that.
SH1 and 3 are just as good, and better depending on your preference (for it's SH3 because it's the single most compelling direct sequel I've played, to the extent that it elevates SH1 even more in retrospect).
