Online, messages always add to the experience in souls games. Dunno about ps3 but emulated version has them everywhere.

Online is dead except for the occasional Undead Burg griefer still doing it for old time's sake. I'm sure the only online private server Demon's players are pure scraping spear second chance cancer.

But seeing the ghosts and messages adds life to the playthrough and on the off-chance that you get a summon, it's way more fun to fight with a buddy. And it's not like dying to an early game griefer sets you back more than like 2 minutes. Everyone's figured out scaling stats and i-frames since release so they're insanely easy anyway.
Which isn't a criticism, I prefer the knowledge gate system to the roll forever and wait for your turn system.

"These" games? I don't know. But Demon's Souls was designed to be played online. The tendency system doesn't nearly work as well without it

The tendency system works way better offline since you have some actual control over it. Online it was impossible to do anything with it outside of the few times they'd set it to pure black/pure white for a holiday or something.
