How is it possible for a console to spawn so many terrible fanbases?

why have there been so many gamecube threads recently

Perpetual need for validation for a console that was once the metric for Nintendo failure until the Wii U, that became psychologically significant to a digital native generation which is why so many Nintendo youtubers are zoomers obsessed with the Gamecube, e.g. Scott Woz or whatever his fucking name is.

You don't get this out of any other Nintendo generation because they otherwise all sold decently, and as far as the Wii U goes every game of note has been ported to the Switch, the platform with the most batshit insanely successful run in gaming history, so the point is m00t.

I had a Gamecube as a kid and so did all of my friends. I had no idea it was a failure until I grew up and at that point I saw Melee fans and stayed the fuck away. Sucks too because Melee was my favorite game as a kid and I still love it but I'm not a pedophile or a rapist so I'll never fit in with the other players.

Yeah but that's specifically because the Wii has a Gamecube inside of it, you're basically just playing a Gamecube so it was still dependent on how much people gave a shit about the Gamecube vs the Wii. The Switch games had to be remade to run on the Switch, same as how now Nintendo is constantly releasing stability patches for the Switch 2's Switch emulation.

A lot of Nintendo IPs had their most unique entry here. People have a hard time outgrowing first impressions, so I can see autists being hellbent on arguing why the Fludd is the definitve Mario experience over smooth movement options and better camera found in later entries.
Melee also kinda fucked up a lot of Nintendo fanbases retroactively.
Other than that, pretty good console and pretty good generation. I was fortunate enough to have both the PS2 and Gamecube at the same time, while having a close friend with an Xbox.

I'm just going to say it.

Wind Waker is weird looking and 80% sailing. The dungeons are too simplistic and the stealth sections are forced because stealth was trendy in the early 2000s.

Mark MacDonald was right to deny it a 10/10.
