Bit extreme since sometimes announcing games is done to get investors' attention or new employees or even a publisher. However I do agree with the notion that by that time at least a vertical slice should be demonstrated in like a 10 or so minutes gameplay trailer.

Announcing a game with a cutscene but then waiting for months or even a year to "reveal" the gameplay, especially if you're already a big dev like Snoy's first party or Microsoft should be mocked. These 2 being the latest notorious examples.

Extreme problems require extreme solutions. My personal extreme solution is ignoring everything except release date announcement. After that I wait 2 to 3 days so trophy hunters get the full scope of the game and see all the nasty secrets the game is hiding past the 2h refund window.

Yeah but it literally can't be done if you don't even have some of the developers needed to implement some of the features you need in the game.
Sometimes you need an input from hardcore fans that are crucial to determine the direction the game is headed, relatively early on in the beta. So you release a demo despite the game being a year or more from release - like what Team Ninja does.

The worst part is when they show a cinematic with no gameplay and then push a “pre-order now” button at the end like we’re supposed to throw money at a damn FMV short film. I don’t care if it’s for hype, investors, or cosmic alignment—you’re a AAA studio with billions in the bank, at least show a HUD and someone walking around in-engine. Otherwise it’s just another CGI Kickstarter pitch with fancier suits behind it.
