Switch 2? No it went into production this year. Also consoles tend to launch with modern architectures. Both Series X and PS5 launched with 7nm RDNA2, which was at the time not even available in AMD GPUs.

Neither PS5, nor XSX have RDNA2.
Both of them use RDNA1 with various upgrades. Xbox went into production later so it has a few more RDNA2 features backported than PS5, but it's still not RDNA2.
Just like Switch 2 SoC is Ampere but has Lovelace features backported and the components are arranged like in other Lovelace SoCs

Imagine cheap 6nm Samsung node, 10-15% higher performance with 10% lower power consumption on top. I understand that 4nm for a full Lovelace die would cost too much, but every entry level Rockchip is in 6/4nm atm.
The SoC is 4 years old now, even when the Switch 1 came out, the X1 was "only" 3 years old.
Nintendo is greedy.

6/24/2025, 12:00:27 PM No.713511654
The immediate PCfag value proposition is to look to tit-for-tat metrics like FLOPS or SoC generations in order to value hardware. Being a PCfag, I do this too, but the reason why this doesn't entirely make sense for the Switch 2 (or any Nintendo console) is
1) The console is designed around stability (ease of manufacturing and longevity of the board materials)
2) Its ability to push games is relevant mostly against Nintendo's *previous* standard, ie the Switch, which itself was a repackaged Wii U in terms of performance
3) It's a closed platform for exclusive software, indie experiences, and games that are either a generation old or current gen but running with lower fidelity promises (ie Elden Ring at 30 FPS)
Nintendo designed a thin handheld that while big, is relatively light in the hands and doesn't kick up a fan undocked. Their priority target is servicing the morning commuters (ie the Japanese densha salarymen) and people at a library or hotel room. They are never going to target performance specs. They will sooner go for comfort specs at a lower fidelity target.

If you aren't comfortable with getting a portable machine made to play Switch 1 games handheld but now at 40-60 FPS, more shaders, better textures, and 1080p, then it's just not made for you. If you want something really powerful, get an ROG Xbox Ally X. If you want a large legacy library, great OS, and infinite modability, get a Steam Deck. If you don't give a shit about handhelds, then just build a good PC. The Switch 2 will be great at delivering its intended experiences, but that doesn't mean you're in the target audience, especially if you don't already like Bing Bing Wahoo.

The screen ghosting sucks dick though. They need to fix it.

>to play Switch 1 games handheld but now at 40-60 FPS
I should clarify that I mean Switch 1 *type* games. Expect Fire Emblem to look better and run at 60 FPS, but to still look like a Japanese game that isn't trying to push pixel counts. Compare the look of Fire Emblem to Resident Evil 4 with all the settings turned up, and you'll get what I mean.
This is why Duskbloods looks like PS4 game and will likely run somewhere between 40-60 FPS handheld and 60 FPS docked. While not optimal, it's a lot better with a VRR screen that can kill screen tearing and make anything above 40 FPS look actually quite good (as we know from the Steam Deck itself).

>2025年時点、Switch 2用ゲームタイトルのほぼすべてが「60 fps」対応です。
As of 2025, almost all game titles for Switch 2 are “60 fps” capable.
>よって60 fpsモード時の応答速度がとても重要になりますが、残念ながら60 Hz時の応答速度はとんでもなく遅いです。
Therefore, the response time in 60 fps mode is very important, but unfortunately the response time at 60 Hz is ridiculously slow.
>30パ>測定で、平均17.06ミリ秒を記録します。
With 30 pattern measurements, it records an average of 17.06 milliseconds.
>60 Hzに必要な16.67ミリ秒すら満たせず、残像感がすごく目立つ性能です。
The performance cannot even meet the 16.67 ms required for a refresh rate of 60 Hz, and the afterimage is very noticeable.
>Switch 2の本体設定から、リフレッシュレートを任意に変更する機能が見当たりません。
I cannot find the ability to change the refresh rate to any desired value from the Switch 2 unit settings.
>60 Hzしか選べず120 Hzを選択できなかったため、120 Hz時の応答速度をそもそも測定できない状態です。
Since only 60 Hz could be selected and not 120 Hz, the response time at 120 Hz could not be measured in the first place.

Frequency: how many distinct images a display can show in a unit interval of time.
Response time: how quickly a pixel can change from one color to another.
Ghosting occurs when the internal logic of the game tells the monitor to render some part of the image elsewhere while it's *just* caught up to rendering the image at its original location. The effect means that while the image is moving, there's a blur caused from the belated image update.

no, 16.67 ms is a frame at 60 fps. in fighting games, most players will recognize 2-3 frame lag very easily. at top level play, a 1 frame lag is noticeable even though it's not reactable.
the important thing is that the lag on the display should not exceed 1 frame, and ideally should sit under it as much as possible. honestly though, the biggest problem is the visible ghosting effect

see those displays at the top? they're advertised as 240hz screens with 0.3ms response times
if quartering their refresh rates didn't hurt their response times then proportionally testing the switch 2's screen at 120 won't help it because fundamentally refresh rate is just telling the monitor to change the picture more often

i know you're shitposting but the human eye doesn't think in terms of frames. it can perceive movement and discrepancies at higher response times, which is why videos can "feel" off even though they're delivering lots of frames poorly.
Refresh rate has to be combined with render techniques to trick the eye into seeing motion through rapidly drawn still images. not only are high framerates important to do this in video games (where controller polling really pushes the need for higher framerates), but actually delivering them in a proper way is just as important in selling fluid movement

OLED has bad flicker with VRR unless you spend a lot of extra battery running the screen at much higher response rates. Even then it's tricky. There's a reason you'd see it perhaps on a TV but no handheld actually supports OLED VRR

Ghosting is a legit problem though since it tires out the eyes. Honestly I just want them to fix it through a firmware update because, yeah if I want to actually play a competitive game on the Switch 2, I'll do it docked.
