For real, this was the time when it was unclear if consoles should try to be distinct platforms with unique hardware OR the now-standard PC model of CPU/GPU working together with graphical libraries to render the game. Sony gambled incorrectly that a CPU could do everything games needed while running in software while outputting a software-rendered 1080p signal (it rarely happened as a result).

I'm not a Sony fanboy and MGS4 is my least favorite MGS, but I bought a PS3 for MGS4 exclusively back when they had a bundle for sale.

Annoyingly, this was the first batch of PS3's that didn't have native PS2 support... so I couldn't play my PS2 games like everyone else who got one earlier.

It's a lazy re-release of the Disk 1 of the MGSHD Collection + MGS1. Nothing new added other than the ability to play japan only versions and choose regions. And game manuals. Other than that, literally nothing new added, but at the same time, they never really said it was gonna be anything but a simple re-release on PC and simply having it avaliable on steam is enough for me. You can even mod the game now.
