Why couldn't Yokai Watch, Digimon, or MegaTen capture the same success as Pokemon?

Seen as knockoff Pokemon, even though it's cooler.

Also, Pokemon being a Nintendo property has helped a lot.

I feel like people have this discussion at least once a month.

Digimon openly appeals to teenage boys with edgy coolmons and hot girls. Pokemon has wider appeal with simpler character design.
Yokai Watch was big in Japan, but not internationally. Around the time that Yokai Watch was getting big, Pokemon Go came out, took over the world, and reasserted Pokemon's international reach.
Megaten is not a multimedia thing, like Pokemon with its card game, ongoing TV series, cafes, etc.
