what the fuck is the deal with this game? Is it a purely singleplayer experience? Is it like dark souls where you can leave messages and those buildings people left are permanent? Does it affect gameplay a lot to play it rn instead of when it released before anything was "built" by the playerbase? Most confusing game I've ever seen

might give it a shot since apparently even 2 is great

Is not that hard to understand if people leave/build a structure in their game it can show up in your game, is balanced in a way where it doesn't become overwhelming but also sometimes the right thing shows up in the right place that makes you go "Thanks for the help dude"

the multiplayer aspect is like dark souls if people could leave more than just messages

so its a list of preset stuff that can appear in X area and in each playthrough sometimes Y thing appears other times it doesn't? and basically the gameplay is delivering shit without combat?

It connects and pulls some random stuff players left, bridges, ladders, bikes and what have you. They do degrade but I have only seen shit like ladders and other small stuff rust away.

Let's say there is a small river you come across, while online it will grab a bridge, jump pad, ladder or whatever and place it in your world till you delete it and if it helps by you using it the player gets a like.

its worth mentioning that when you get to an area you have to traverse it "offline" and connect it to the network. then other player's objects will start showing up. and theyre random, so you obviously wont be seeing EVERYTHING everyone has ever put there.

youre encouraged to avoid combat, but there is combat options. theres a couple forced combat sections too. but also you can choose to raid enemy camps. or you can just sneak into them and steal their shit without a fight.

It's like this.
Your world has "states", meaning when you unlock stuff through story progression, you open up your world to receiving structures made by other people. So for example, to see bridges around, you actually have to unlock bridges through story progression.

You can delete other people's buildings, but that only deletes them from your world. You can pair yourself up with other people, and that makes it more likely for their structures to show up in your game (and yours in their game).

There is combat, sometimes forced, sometimes not. There are two types of enemies: BTs, which are the ghost things, and humans, which are either thieves or terrorists. There are subtypes of BTs. You start with only a fucking string (you can use this to choke people out), but through story progression, you first get grenades, then finally start to get lethal weaponry - handguns, shotguns, rifles. The final unlock is a rocket launcher.

This is sort of a spoiler, but there are 3 chapters (out of 14) that are just a very prolonged boss fight in another area. When you reach it for the first time you'll understand.

It's not preset, the game pairs you up with a random player that's the same level as you, and their structures show up on your world (and vice-versa). Explaining more would lead to spoilers, but let's just say the structures don't actually need to be useful (there are later structures that are there for cool points), and there are structures that pave a road (yes, a road for vehicles). For those, everyone gets a percentage and everyone can contribute to build the road pieces. It makes more sense once you try it.

And like someone said above, to get all the online content, you actually have to reach certain terminals and "link" them. That way, a certain area around there is connected to the network, and other players' structures start to appear for you.

And just a heads-up. You'll never see another player, but there's actually a way to see someone that's playing right next to you. You'll probably see it once or twice in your whole playthrough, but let me just say it right now: if you see packages falling out of thin air one after the other, that means there is a player right there getting rid of packages. You can't interact with him, but just knowing he's there makes it pretty cool.

There are other ways you can interact with other players, but let's just say they're spoilers.

It's the most multiplayer non-mmorpg game out there.

Look at this picture and ask yourself why a "Walking simulator" need so many guns, grenades and missiles launcher.

To summarize everything that's connected:

- yes you leave messages
- you also leave building which are useful to traverse (some troll tho)
- you can participate in the building/maintenance of someone else building
- you sometime find the lost cargo of other players and can bring it back for them
- you can ask other players to deliver cargo or vehicles
- there are trails generated where players walk the most

>>713540926
>combat?
Outside the plotline the only enemy are mules who try to stole your cargo, or when you go to them to steal stuff
There's also BT ghost you fight in bloody fight (literally) if you take shortcut and if you fuckup it lead to a big fight
If you fail that battle, you get a literal crater.
Within the plotline, there's plenty of unavoidable BT encounters, plus boss battle, some of them gigantic.

As it is a Kojima game, you have plenty of sneaky and takedown options. It doesn't help that cadavers left alone in this world lead to antimatter explosion.
So yes, you might have to carry cadavers to an incinerator.
