Not only is this explained in the original game, it's explained in Rebirth. From Tifa's point of view Cloud shouldn't know ANY of that. But he does somehow. It makes Tifa doubt her own memory of events, especially because she has a childhood brain injury after falling off the bridge. You already know he was making things up so you must have played the original. How could you think she doesn't have a reason for not pressing him?
