Thoughts on this CRPG

Shit. I don't want to be the underling of the tyrant I want to be the tyrant. Refunded it.

It's the inflection point at which the new Obsidian started to outweigh the old Obsidian

The last good game Obsidian ever made.

>YOU GET TO BE THE VILLAIN! HOW COOL IS THAT?

>no doing racisms

Kind of a wasted potential for a more unique setting compared to usual slop.

Very bad. Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2 mog it.
>No good characters
>Kills-In-Shadows
>Act 3 is an embarrassment
>You were forced to become le good guy at the end until they patched it in after I already finished it
Wasn't remotely surprised when I read rumors that Paradox cut ties with Obsidian when they learned that Obsidian was divesting resources from Tyranny to PoE 2.

Ultimately, Tyranny had a very good concept that was just not realized anywhere near its full potential. Speaking of, any games that are like Tyranny but actually done well?

I didn’t like how evil the game forced you to be

LOL nope. PoE is soulless. Tyranny is a million times better.

I thought it was a solid "evil D&D campaign" sort of thing. I played it as a fantasy Judge Dredd. Then suddenly it just ended.

Last good game before Obsidian went to shit.

I ended up not finishing it.

I really liked the concept at first, but it's more like you're an underling of a tyrant rather than the tyrant proper. There is a path that sets you up as a rebellious leader, but the actual leader part isn't in this game. If you don't go down that path you're basically submitting yourself as a pawn of either general which is kind of a downgrade as you're an underling of an underling.

I remember being unsatisfied with the ending, but my only playthrough was a "serve kairos", or whatever the warlords name was, playthrough. Last I heard it was because it was a route that was added in later as the devs thought nobody would want to pick a route like that.

Absolutely failed execution on the games premise, you do not actually get to be the dark, brutal conqueror who rapes and pillages his way to a kingdom, you're just a proxy for the actual conqueror and ruler, and you either end the game becoming an anti-hero by rebelling against them or becoming their servile bitch. Absolute trash.

No worries, Obsidian didn't finish it either.

>play power hungry sorcerer character
>capture water magic bitch
>threaten to kill her for the secrets of water magic
>she calls my bluff
>keep her around to try and find some way to break her
>my character's constant delving into arcane knowledge due to him being a scheming sorcerer impresses her and she offers to teach me water magic because NPCs only have a single scale for their opinions of the player
>throw her off the tower because I got what I wanted
Games fucking retarded despite some neat facets of the worldbuilding

Playing through it right now
I prefer Pillars of Eternity. The game is a little too jank for me even though the setting is interesting
Verse is cringe and the downsides of the Disfavoured seem like strawmen

My issue with POE was I thought every team member I met was boring as hell. Pretty game, didn't like the way they had combat set up. Gave up after I dunno, six or so hours.

never played it, but immediately assume this quote describes it

>It's just modern characters with modern psychology swinging around magic swords in a Disneyland version of history.
