The Switch 1 screen is already crap, by the way, but there is one advantage there: the Switch 1 isn't known for running games smoothly anyway, especially in handheld mode. So it doesn't really matter. But Switch 2 has the advantage of running Switch 1 games at a smooth 60fps, and if the devs want to, many games can run at 120fps after patches, and now more than ever we need a decent screen. But Nintendo has rewarded us with a screen that is WORSE than Switch 1 when it comes to motion clarity.
The fact that people are overlooking this is insane in my opinion. It was crucial that the Switch 2 screen be high quality. I was already decided on holding onto my Switch 1 for another year or two, now I'll hold onto it as long as necessary for a Switch 2 revision.

As I grew up with video games, all I could think of was the potential we had in the future- how amazing video games could be as technology advances. technically it's a misconception to think that slow response times on a 60hz display is bad because a single frame takes 16 milliseconds.
I don't think anyone is using their switch to watch anime, but technically speaking having a smooth / linear curve for the response of the pixel (gamma corrected) is a helpful feature that helps with reducing judder.
You would think that buying a 144hz display would display 60hz EXACTLY the same as a 60hz display, but that's wrong, they cannot control the speed that the pixel changes because it's not analog, it's digital, and the slow change in brightness is due to the properties of the display (the signal is binary high / low, no analog, maybe in theory a display could have hardware to simulate the gradual pixel response, but 144hz feels a lot better than 60hz, so nobody would really care).
For example you could compare the IPS display on a macbook air on RTings, you can clearly see the response is slow but any OLED / high refresh rate IPS display is going to have a very fast response, going to 0 to 100% at exactly the same speed on 60hz vs the highest refresh rate.
You can fix judder on a high referesh rate display by using MPV (it works on windows) and setting in conf
--interpolation=yes
--video-sync=display-resample
This will present the video at the maximum refreshrate and blend the frames together, instead of presenting each frame at the framerate of the video.
But this feature may not be present in your browser / other programs.

I had a plasma. It replaced my fireplace on cold winter nights. It did look great, but it had noticeable plasma buzz.

I’m guessing price. They were too afraid to release an even more expensive oled model at launch. Power consumption is the other part of the decision they had to make. The Switch 1 revisions became more efficient over time, which opened it up for the oled upgrade. The same will likely happen for the Switch 2. If they slapped an oled on it as it is now they would have needed a larger battery, so it would have weighed more.

I don't know why they made the undocked screen bigger instead of just having better battery time assumingly. Bigger screen is less portable and it isn't a good screen.
