Platinum had a great selection if you care to make the effort, find Evolution items for the newer mons like Froslass or Gliscor. Same with Gen 2. It's funny because people will complain about later games making level grinding easier.

I never liked the whole line's designs. I've grown to like/tolerate other Pokemon I didn't like at first, but Gible/Gabite/Garchomp still look like they were designed by a 10-year old to me. Which is particularly frustrating because I do like the idea of a landshark Pokemon on paper.

I would personally say 3 has the worst until SM onwards. I think of the fossil pokemon and Carvanha. It's probably more so that less of them stand out as ones I like in comparison to 4, but I also like a lot of gen 5 pokemon so it's probably a taste thing.
