Alien egg that has some sort of tree like cocoon structure around it, it mindtraps anyone in the vicinity and the roots grow into them and mentally they are in the titular Darkwoods. I can't remember if the tree is drawing strength from their minds or if it's just that as their bodies die and decompose they serve as fertilizer/nutrients for the egg.
