I was hyped for Warding, made a new character for the first time in decades, had a blast playing through all the old bits and leveling, while intentionally keeping Defense low so I could fully enjoy the new mid-level mage gear that was coming. Of course Warding only got a meager 67% of player approval and was scrapped. The real final straw for me was the Christmas immediately following the vote, where they recycled the Warding assets for that year's holiday garbage. Absolute smack in the face.

Played the one before last and thought it was pretty good, but in playing the last one, I felt sick to see that they not only in the gameplay department they just shrugged and said "more wagglan tranny bosses, also that's the only nontent of this league" but the fact that they recycled the chunkman region shit because it's all anyone is doing on jewtube shows how lazy jamflex is.
The nail in the coffin was them outright saying in some hell stream with some woman thing acting as mouthpiece for jamflex that they would never do anything but the gay chunkman regions for leagues ever again.
The lowering of the casket and burying under six feet of dirt was project zanaris being shitcanned, since that was basically the last gasp of hope for anyone to make anything not fucking trannified out of the game engine *legally

It's 100% a different game than the way it was in 2006. You can't lose your items on death, you can't be lured into the wilderness or tricked by shady back alley characters in varrock. The Grand Exchange killed so much of the game too, everything is reduced to a shopping list and bank standing. All 99s are incredibly easy to get now if you have the money and some time to kill, you can semi-afk just about everything, even combat thanks to NMZ. PvP has been gutted, no more spontaneous f2p teams duking it out in multi, only 1v1 sweats and a handful of large clans.

This used to be a niche hardcore RPG and now it's the lamest carebearfest that basically plays itself. No more long term progression, no more of the semi-RP social interactions that the organic trading and economic ecosystem encouraged. Everything is extremely convenient to the player at all times especially if you have the money to buy gold via bonds or black market.

I come back for a month or two every year. I will stop when I can no longer afford a bond

I realized I had no chance doing endgame content because of my 200ms ping. And Jagex will never implement Brazilian servers.

Also realized that said endgame content is way too mentally draining. At some point the knowledge overload just caught up with me. Every endgame content requires you to do a full equipment and inventory setup. Even with stuff saved you also have all the mechanics of raids. It was just way too much mental overload. WoW hits much better. You know your rotation, you have DBM installed, you're good.

bots have always been a problem but I believe the grand exchange genuinely made things worse. Suicide bots used to have to trade their farmed supplies to another character or sell it and trade the gold before getting banned and that often left a predictable trail for evidence on bans. Taking that away and letting them turn it into instant gold opened a huge can of worms. Also, a gold sink function is necessary now because bossing yields noted supplies that make skilling borderline useless outside of quest reqs.

the grand exchange, god swords, dragon claws. around the time when these things were released was when i quit the game way back in the day

when barrows was the best armour available, the game was good

if i can pin point the main things that killed the game, they'd be:

- grand exchange (everyone doesn't trade at local banks anymore, they just all go to varrock. all banks are ghost towns)
- adding tons of servers (for crying wusses not being able to farm, resulting in empty dead worlds)
- bonds (buying bonds in game makes your cash and items feel worthless. 80-90% of the best in item games are able to be bought if you just buy bonds. in the past you had to go to shady sites that could potentially hack you, so only faggots bothered going there)
- democracy like polling (the people are retarded)

Raids are fun. Except the score system is ass. In wow if you died to a boss during a raid you wipe but your chance of loot is the same if you killed the boss on your first try or your 3rd. In runescape, you only get loot at the end of the raid and if you die in the raid you lose half your points so your chance of look goes right out the window when you die on any of the bosses.

Added with the poor healing capabilities, when you die in a raid you likely have to start over since you wasted all your healing supplies. Whereas in wow you have healers whose spells are only on cool down.

Then the loot from the raids are ass. Lots of times you'll spend 30min to an hour for 30k loot, with a rare item at a low base rate and the only items worth anything, the mega rares worth 1bil+, take around 300 completions to get on average

I grew up playing runescape in 2006-2008 and played exclusively F2P.
When I finally played Old School and tried Members i realized it was pretty shit compared to F2P and reintroduction of the GE didn't help.

Ultimately I didn't like being on a timer with members content and the game wasn't good enough to justify a sub.

Being acutely aware of staring at my monitor clicking trees and rocks or doijg some shitty mini game for hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours while I distract myself from the monotony on my other monitor in hopes that one day I’ll have a max cape…and then going to bed and waking up and doing it again. In the meantime actual literal anxiety when im not playing that I’m wasting potential xp because the grind is so damn long. After a couple hundred hours of that and a few 99s the illusion was shattered. Runescape should be about players using their skills to make the best items they can which they trade with other players to eventually make something worth having. That goes out the window when bosses always drop something better at 1/1000 chance and when the price of anything you can craft craters because everything gets dumped on the GE.

The games population is legitimately half bots and the moderation has become so bad the bots are crashing real players without a care in the world of being reported. I saw a guy in the kourend slayer cave afking black demons get crashed by a full bot set up random name account with an obby shield, he called it a shit bot in public and it didn't even bother hopping. Doing a wilderness boss with a scout outside, you will see a bot try and take your world once every 30 seconds, and a real player once every 5. It's a lot of fun but the bots are ruining it. On top of that the browns running the bots in the wildy will jump with terminator scripts you if you dare do anything to them, or mass report and try to get you chain banned for rwt wealth transfer if you kill too many of their bots.

It was after I beat Zulrah to get Elite Void and then took my shit to TOA with 2 other people, one with worse gear/stats and the other with better ones. I died to a lot of unintuitive shit that you would have to look at a wiki for and one of the other guys was being a HUGE bitch on voice chat the entire time because he died even more than me, and it got really bad when we got the fossil poop "reward". It turns out at the end that the geared guy left a few invocations on that made it harder, but I decided that I no longer wanted a game based on tick manipulation and shit that you have to wiki. Skilling is completely pointless outside of meeting requirements to do a quest or a diary. Doing any gathering skill is pointless because every boss is a loot pinata. Same with crafting, you can get fully complete potions and food by killing bosses.
The "best" way to play is to just do bosses 24/7 and then do most expensive skilling method.
And ironman mode is held back by abysmal drop rates balanced around trading.

Fishing is done to gain Fishing XP, not to catch fish. Everyone just drops their fish, either immediately, or after cooking it on a fire few tiles away. With Tempoross you get noted fish but most people just chuck them on GE for bots to cook.
Mining? You do MLM for the experience and nuggets, with random ores as money-maker. You never go out of your way to mine, say, adamant rocks because you need to make more adamant bolts.
There is literally zero good reason to do anything yourself, unless you need the experience. Especially with profit margins being painfully low. The community sees everything through the lens of XP rates. There is a lot of dead content because people don't want to do it, but if they fixed it the XP rates would be too high so it needs to stay dead (see, the new Fletching Knife and ironman XP rates).

Playing a seasonal league actually killed my interest in playing the base game. With all the boosted drops and XP gain, plus unique mechanics, it felt a LOT less like my time was being wasted.

When I was a kid, Runescape was an adventure where your character went on whimsical quest and slowly became better and better until he was a cool hero.

Sailing can easily be made into osrs type content. It took awhile before construction was relatively loved and useful and now its one of the best qol skills to have at a high level.

With sailing they need to focus on the adventure of sailing. Sailing to distant lands and killing monsters and or solving puzzles. Using your boat as an option that travels you between docks and fully heals you/restores prayer. Allowing you to use your docked boat as a bank.

It can work. If they make it agility but with boats. Its going to fail.

I don’t really like the rock-paper-scissors shit of prayer and gear switching, and since that’s pretty much the only form of skill expression players can have in the game, I just got bored.

Its also because runescapes content is always balanced towards max gear. In most games, the monsters you kill at your current level provide the equipment upgrade for the next set of levels. And youre constantly getting your next upgrade as you fight monsters your current level

In runescape. Monsters your current level drop the equipment thats a downgrade from where you are.

For example. Most players kill hill giants as a f2p. Or at least they used to back in the day. You'd kill hill giants until you were ready for lesser demons.
Assuming you were base 30s in any other game with gear progression hill giants would drop a rune scimitar or rune longsword, so that you can move up to stronger monsters when you hit level 40.

In current runescape. Same scenario, except hill giants actually drop steel scimitars. You dont need a steel scimitar at base level 30 combat.

Because of this fighting monsters at your current level always feels like ass since there is never any drops that will upgrade your gear.

Now what monsters actually drops the rune scimitar? Fire giants. What weapon do you have by the time you can kill fire giants consistently? A dragon scimitar.

This even bleeds over to bosses. By the time youre geared enough to do bandos. You already have bandos armor. There is no upgrades to be had.

Ultimately it devalues pvm and shifts the progression line from killing monsters for new gear to killing monsters for junk to sell to buy new gear
