We saw the same deranged behavior around games like Majora's Mask before the remake, where it was the "best" despite most of its "fans" having never played it. You see similar stuff today with GameCube titles because, for most consumers, the titles have been unobtainable. This all *might* change with the new NSO rollout, but at the same time, the people who actually love these games don't seem like the type to buy a subscription. They've already been introduced to emulation by necessity.

I think this will happen with all games that have a single version for each language. If the game is one of those that has multiple language options, then in this case it is likely that the Japanese version and the version in your country are the same, and then the game will be considered "purchased" in all stores.
