That's not even the worst of it. The target audience changed from grown up men tired of tendie shit to women and zoomers, with emphasis on women. They're making more money off selling merch to fujos, it doesn't even matter if anyone apart from streamers actually plays these games.

It's written by Takeuchi, who came from a background of writing mobile social games for women. It has retarded shit like food and drink survival meters. It has a hapa protag born before hapas were even a thing, purely for the sake of western pandering. It copies some of the most pretentious movies and directors like Jarmusch. It's historically inaccurate, by 1943 the whole country was a year into constant blackouts and many cities were bombed to shit by amerimutts.

I played Yakuza 0 because people kept insisting "Bro it's just Shenmue but modern and better!" And its nothing like Shenmue. Its more like a Streets of Rage RPG. With that said, there are way too many Yakuza games in the span of time that the series has been out. And for some reason Sega has been milking their IPs super fucking hard over the past 7 years or so. So they just keep making more and more Yakuza or Monkey Ball or Sonic and my mindset is usually "another one? I haven't even started the previous one".

With that said I think the series is really underrated. The visuals are also really good and it's a shame more games don't look like Yakuza but instead like generic unreal engine garbage.

If you go all the way back to PS2 games, they're a series of time capsules. You can see the country changing almost year on year, and I don't mean the obvious things like architecture or shops moving around. It's a gradual sanitization of public entertainment. You can also see the economy changing, bouncing back from the lost decades just to start silently falling apart, this time hiding things like homelessness in new, creative ways.

It would be like changing Mega Man or Resident Evil back to their original names. You already spent years building your brand with that name in the west and basically kneecap yourself for no real reason. Even then they're still localizing the names as "Infinite Wealth" is not 8's name or even subtitle in Japan (Because it doesn't have one), "Yakuza: Like a Dragon" misses both the 7 and the subtitle in it, "Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name" misses the entire "7 Gaiden" part of it which is fairly important for the name, and "Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii" is an actual bastardization of a perfectly good title in "Like a Dragon 8 Gaiden: Pirates in Hawaii". So good in fact the western version still has "Pirates in Hawaii" on the pause screen.

I hate how they just abandoned the 3-5 engine by 6.
It was very snappy, looked like your usual PS3 game but had nice clarity to the visuals, worked well enough for all the genre mishmash they did in 5, and also was overall geeat for non-yakuza brawlers (the FOTNS game) and they changed it for a shitty floaty blur-ridden mess because... uhhhh, ragdolls?

I didn't, just finished 4 but man, has the writing dropped the ball
It was never high brow or intellectual, but it was fun to be there for the ride, to see shady characters scheming and shirtless guys beating the shit out of eachother on the roof of a skyscraper
Every cutscene in 4 had one or multiple twists that go over eachother it feels like a ping pong match
Also suddenly everyone is retarded. Sure, let's leave 100 bil in cash unlocked. Sure, let's leave a loaded gun next to a bad guy we just defeated. TWICE. Sure, let's give the benefit of doubt to the people that spent their entire life working as double agents. Everyone is a double agent now
Please tell me that 5 and 6 is at least a notch above

When I saw they put streamers in the ishin remaster
I had a problem with them catering to the normalfag audience after 0 but that was the point that basically cemented the fact the series is no longer for gamers

ive been slowly playing all of them in order, so I got 5 next then 6 then like a dragon, but I might play the ps2 1 and 2 before like a dragon, I also will replay dead souls (my favorite)

Plot-wise, only 1, 2 and 0 are decent, but the characters, interaction and general tone make up for it well enough that all up to 7 have been enjoyable.
Dunno about the rest because they still have denuvo and I ain't paying no matter how good a game is.

After it was all but confirmed they're never making another Judgement and even if they were no Nagoshi would mean it would turn into pure goofyslop like the mainline games instead of staying neo-noir detective kino
