Both are fair, leaving Lee behind might be a way to preserve just a bit of innocence and save her the heartache, plus she saves a bullet that might come in handy later. He is willing to walk away with nothing (Even offering to return supplies that they give out as a "sorry you can't come in" compromise) and stresses to Clementine the need to let Alvin know about the sacrifices everybody made to get them to that point so that they aren't forgotten and that their deaths weren't in vain.

Shows that after everything he's still a good person that is willing to sacrifice his own wellbeing for others, makes it so everyone's death actually mattered, proves Janefags/Anti-Kenny trannies wrong and doesn't allow for retarded season 3 writing to fuck up his character arc
