I don't think it enhances the dialogue at all, but I really don't mind in any other instance, but that particular line just wasn't necessary in the first place and the delivery is fucking horrendous. You'd be stunlocked, too shocked to speak if you were suddenly enveloped in that white flash, maybe a subtle gasp at most. It's so bad and there's no other instance in the game like it that I can think of. Not sure if I prefer them getting it out of the way early or if that's worth potentially giving people a bad early impression.

First the writing is really good.
I'm not even talking about the plot, but actual writing.
Dialogues are not too long, not too short. Just the perfect length for a video game.

Every scene is written like a theater scene. Meaning there is always a source of tension between the characters involved that needs to be resolved and that is usually resolved by the end of the scene.
In a game like Dragon Age for example most of the scenes feel flat because they're just used to dump exposition and context to the player. In most modern jarpigs too.
Never happens in Expedition 33.

Now the atmosphere of the game is top notch. You feel immersed in the world they created. The music is varied, sometimes eery, sometimes emotional, sometimes when it needs to be.
Every biome/boss has its own fitting battle theme which again is rarely seen in most recent jarpigs (take Metaphor for example).

The directing is the best thing about this game. It's kino, simple as. Every boss introduction is directed perfectly and whit well placed silences to increase the dramatic effect.
Just look at this shit when the camera stops for 3 second on Renoir's face and the theme starts playing. They even animated the very subtle gleam in his eyes. The director knows kino.

The exploration is also really cool. The world map feels very old school with secret areas and high level bosses you can access from the start. You unlock new abilities each act so you always discover new shit to do. There are entire optional story related levels which means the developers don't handhold you and let you go deep if you want to really understand all the nuances of the plot. Nothing really feels like filler.

The weakest part is the actual combat to me but it's nowhere near terrible.

That's the least charitable view you could use of that writing choice. Like I kind of understand what you're saying, but you get that the writing choice intentionally puts the player at odds with Verso throughout Act 2 and subsequently makes his Act 3 motivations much more real? If Verso wasn't POV and he was just some random dude who joins you, you wouldn't care about him and would be happy to cast him off when he betrays the party. The player needs to care about Verso for the emotional climax of the game to work.
