All the threads about the rumored Tomb Raider game set in India with everybody's curated webms are good fun and all, but it really doesn't answer the question about what an even bigger open world is going to contribute to Tomb Raider.
The two biggest weaknesses of the 2nd Tomb Raider reboot were
>Lara's character development stagnating and constantly going in circles
>open world design but mobility restricted to what Lara is allowed to interact with means constant padding and commutes between any interesting setpieces or level structure so it's just a really flattened metroidvania

Yeah the Netflix series is either gonna go for the adoptive sister lesbian romance or the "lmao Square-Enix sold the IP catalog for $300M to a company that spent $1B on fucking Gearbox without rights to Borderlands" Sam romance but it at least understood that the original appeal of the series was Lara traveling around the world and doing cool shit in a variety of places not just bumming around Russia. That the whole point of an origin story would be how she becomes the original character people liked.

What's the point of being a globetrotting adventurer if she doesn't globetrot and barely goes on adventures? The voice actress reading the wikipedia page on ancient civilizations is not character depth.
