For me it was not the game itself, but the game's story. Games are the only thing that makes me truly connect to a personal level with the characters. Seeing them try their hardest to fight for what they believe in and seeing the passion with which they triumph over adversity is the sort of thing that made me want to try myself. Really appreciate when a dev properly develops his characters and I always take note of them in order to see what else they have in store for the future.
