Do gaming magazines have a modern equivalent? Do you miss them? I think they had soul even if they were 60% filler

i miss how earnest it was. everyone liked games, they liked gaming, the audience for gaming wasn't constantly maligned by spoiled Hollywood burnouts upset that the audience didn't like their shitty screenplay converted into a 30 hour walking sim.

even going back to watch old episodes of X-Play is kind of depressing.

Gamer girl Michelle Rodriguez… I remember when she was almost correct naming her favorite game: “Heavy Metal Gear Solid”

In mexico EGM was inarguably the best videogame journalism magazine.. so you can imagine the level… Club Nintendo magazine was full of shit at that time giving Batman for GC and Dora the explorer for GBA 10 out of 10 both so they could sell more

When I was a kid I used to collect gaming magazines. I loved them. I even sent art to those videogame drawing contest and won 1 after drawing a really crude version of Samus (the DS had just released and it included the Metroid Prime Hunters demo).
Growing up, I realized that 99% of the magazine was just marketing and advertising.

That's how Nintendo Power was so cheap. Yet, they did a great job on it and we still like it today

I used to find the lack of content in my country's gaming magazines deplorable. I basically bought them just to look at the pictures of the games.
Then, with the popularization of PCs, magazines started coming with CDs full of demos, sometimes full games, and things improved considerably. The magazines dedicated to PCs games were a thousand times better, too, I think because the guys writing them were techies so they knew how to at least put some useful information in the articles they wrote.

This magazine was probably like 2004, seeing Driver 3's release date
What RPGs could she have played with bad stories?

Germany. All the gaming magazines I read in the 90s to early 2000s are still in print for some reason.

Even when game magazines like this started coming out with a more edgy angle, I still felt like I was part of the majority of people who actually liked video games. I think to make a magazine at all and people buying it really meant something. Then as everything started shifting to TV with G4, as brief as that was, and online it took less and less effort of make and participate in video game related content and the entire industry went downhill.

I knew from the thumbnail that was gonna be Julie Strain
God I miss her, she was 6'1" but still wore heels everywhere and had that giant floof of '80s hair

She fell off a horse and sustained a head injury and then over the course of the next couple years her brain just disintegrated in her skull. I was about to say it's the second worst horse-related death I've ever heard of behind Christopher Reeves but then I remembered that gay guy that tried to get a horse to fuck him up the ass and succeeded and was rushed to the morgue so I guess Julie is #3
