The game is a rogue like ("shortish" randomized runs) that plays as a much faster remnant, you are always moving on combat with a much faster and readily available dash (instead of rolling) and a decent focus on perfect reloading by clicking correctly during the reload animation.
Then after you have cleared the room you are free to explore that room for hidden loot etc.
One of the coolest "features" was how i felt i was getting better at the game, there are some permanent upgrades but not as many as other roguelikes that have you improve your stats, here you just get the metroivania tools as permanent upgrades and slots for more (random) trinkets. So most of your proress is you getting legit better. Most people go from struggling with the first boss to maybe complete a first cycle just like that.
As some other anon said the vibe of the game is immaculate, the gunplay is fun as fuck with a lot of different weapons that get their own random mods which in some cases are just passive shit but others change the way that gun works.
Im not a fan of the obscure narrative / unreliable narrator, i think that the game would have been better with a more streamline presentation of Selene's story.
A full run can take a couple hours.
