The original games are thirty years old. The vast majority of people talking about video games online were not alive when Sonic was a video game series. Why would I do that all the time? It took until Mania that there was a good Sonic game outside of the Genesis games. After a long, long time waiting, you just have to accept a franchise won't cater to you anymore. I'll take Mania as a farewell gift. I'm not going to stoop all Sonic conversations and shit on the games all the time. I'll just play games that'll appeal to me.

It's a shame the series turned out the way it did, but why dwell on it for decades. Some people moved on, others make fan games.

It's the opposite, people who are 30-35+ years old were around to shit on Sonic in the 2000s and early 2010s and would be the ones who remember him that way, zoomers either remember that part of Sonic more fondly because they grew up with it or they're into the recent upsurge in Sonic that started with the first movie. They don't care about some bugfest from 19 years ago that ruined the franchise's reputation at the time any more than they care about the game grumps, that's an old fossil thing among people not willing to move on while the franchise's reputation has steadily improved. The moment Sonic fans rejected Mania and allowed Forces to succeed was the moment I knew things got out of hand. Even if Mania was mostly old remixed stages, supporting it and pushing for a proper sequel would have likely addressed those issues and we'd be playing Mania 3 by now with amazing spritework and pseudo-3D visuals.

When you make a game that usurps Sonic Team tenfold and they themselves can't even replicate the physics without taking his engine and still failing to deliver on that end, I'd demand more money too.
