When did you realise this was the only good Souls game?
>Gameplay emphasis on level design, the bosses are tests of your mettle at the end of a long journey rather than the bread and butter of the game at the expense of everything else
>Mostly straightforward and well explained lore and worldbuilding, you don't have to make up youtuber tier headcanon just to make the world make sense
>No Zanzibart forgive me bullshit, character motivations and backstories are generally rich, relatable and sympathetic and aren't just 99% E-Celeb fan fiction stolen from reddit
>Dying actually matters as there isn't a checkpoint in every room
>Armor and clothing are extremely memorable and are some of which are exclusive to either gender adding replay value
>Multiplayer didn't have retarded Miyazaki weapon tier system bullshit and allowed for fun builds that you could experiment with
>Understated but impactful and memorable OST, no generic "epic" choral bullshit that sounds like it belongs in a capeshit film

Prove me wrong

You can't

Legit question /v/, is the difficulty of PS5 Demon's Souls easier, harder, or about the same as the PS3 version?

Ps5 remake would be perfect if we could have the original ost. People don't know that theres a filter to make it look like the original.

slightly easier, but about the same I think. They gave a handful of QoL updates like (I think) no equip load or at least automatic storage. Its been like 5 years so I can't remember.

The biggest blunder of the Remake is that they could've easily done many more QoL updates and features that literally everyone would've loved, but they pretend like it was about honor and preservation (while they desecrate half the artstyle and OST)

This was also before Elden Ring came out. Going from DS3/Sekiro mechanics back to DeS was a fucking slog when you know full well they COULD'VE updated the whole game accordingly with basic shit like expanded movesets.

I think it was a hard line to walk. They were trying to please purists, but also sell a launch title for PS5 based off the Souls franchise success and player base.
FWIW I really enjoyed the remake, but I do wish they just finished off the 6th archstone, even as a DLC. All the assets are floating around in DeS PS3, plus they could have had design meetings with Fromsoft and asked about their intentions around the unfinished sections and paid appropriate respect to them.

>Valley of Defilement
>RRRRRRRAGGGHHHHHHHH HELP ME MMRRRRAHHHHHHHHHH
>Super pointless item burden
>Super smooth 15fps on ps3 that drops to a PowerPoint presentation whenever a fucking wyvern shows up

Still, I have so many fond memories.

That's the big one for me when it comes to Fromsoft games these days. It's probably why Sekiro landed so well with me as it's the closest to DeS I feel (in so far as the levels can be quite challenging, and the bosses are tests of your accumulated skills and knowledge).
For whatever single player game they make next I hope they return to a true Dungeon Crawler feeling - lots of traps, passages, challenges, ganks, tricks etc. Also limited weapons/spells so the game can be crafted around specific mechanics as opposed to the kitchen sink that is ER.

Dark Souls 1-3 are all massively overrated.

this would be a valid point if it was unanimously agreed that most of DeS was a prototype. And the fact they drastically change the tone of the atmosphere means they aren't actually concerned about the purity, it just wouldve taken too much work

First half of DS1 is among the holy trinity of Souls, next to DeS and BB
DS2 gets an honorable mention for trying its absolute best within the worst circumstances possible. 3 is just boring

For me it was the flip-flopping between purism and revisionism. Like they went to town making sure animations were pretty much 1:1, half the art assets are beautifully updated versions of the originals, and the bosses are also nearly 1:1 when it comes to their animations/strings. But then the other half of the art is just wildly incorrect (Vanguard demon and Fat Officials come to mind as the most offensive).

>DS2 gets an honorable mention
It's really grown on me now, years later. It's genuinely feels like an attempt was made the expand the core of the souls formula, not just make it "bigger". The levels are very difficult, you can't bumrush them, you have to invest in dodge rolling, there's a lot of secrets and dead ends and side passages leading to sometimes loot and sometimes nothing. I think DS2 feels the most like a D&D game to me. You really can approach it from a variety of angles like an opne-world game, but it isn't an open-world game.

The PS3 version isn't exactly the pinnacle of challenge (that's a good thing), and I imagine that the improved roll in the remake trivializes a lot of the combat even further.

Also pointless raceswapping even though some of the characters like crestfallen warrior have long established looks that are used throughout the series
