Its stupid when the zombies are the slow, mundane, decrepit piles of flesh. Like TWD wants you to believe society collapsed in a few weeks after a sheriff in a small town went into a coma. How? I would imagine the best bet would be to just hold out, in the winter with no source of warmth a majority of the zombies would freeze and become helpless even if their parasite/disease/magic kept them alive. Similarly their bodies would eventually decay to the point of helplessness or they would starve to death eventually. I liked the 7 days route where no one knows what caused it and there's evidence of aliens, viral outbreak, demons, government shenanigans, pharma shenanigans, religious shenanigans, and nuclear radiation as well. It's been a while since I've actually been invested in the L4D lore, I'm pretty sure there were concepts of infected animals that were scrapped to keep the Green Flu to humans exclusively, but I wonder if the infected can/would eat animals. Yes, but devs have fucked it up the last few years to make it primarily multiplayer streamer-bait shit.
You need mods to make it what i'd consider a decent zombie apocalypse experience.

They currently make it basically impossible to get water at the beginning of the game to force you to interact with the traders (which I personally despise because the entire concept of immortal traders with endless resources giving you stupid missions in the middle of a zombie apocalypse where there are no other living people is retarded). You used to be able to just find a river and boil water but faggot streamers bitched it was too boring and they instead want to do endless radiant missions instead.

There are a lot of issues with zombies spawning on top of you, in empty rooms, and inside bases (to hide how shitty the pathfinding is) and you have to jump through all kinds of hoops to try to fight against the crappy game design to prevent that. In spite of this supposedly being a game about building and defending bases. This makes 90% of base concepts pointless and the streamer-meta is just to build a big-ass long concrete corridor then camp at the end with a machine-gun on horde nights and basically everything is balanced toward this one concept so it stays challenging for those people.

Lots of RNG for crucial shit that is clearly geared toward multiplayer where you have several people looting in parallel.

Usually I mod out birds and dogs because the birds are just annoying and fuck up open-air bases, the dogs basically insta-kill you early game unless you have somehow lucked across a higher-tier gun. The super zombies, especially cops are debatable but i'm not a fan.

I still play it in spite of how shitty it is because project zomboid is the only better experience I can find, but the 2d overhead design of that gets old after a while. There are a thousand zombie games but basically all clones of the same slop.

Have heavily armed guards posted in distant defensible positions for any large meetings or parties.
Have your guys wear a full face covering helmet so even if they become a zombie they can't bite people.

In general the Resident Evil/Biohazard games are about small scale occurrences of zombie outbreakings in isolated geographic regions, and don't overrun the modern military. In fact, Mercenary and Special Ops forces are shown to be QUITE effective at dealing with zombies throughout the series, particularly entries like RE4 (>inb4 Ganados aren't zombies, they fit the classical definition of the term fairly well funnily enough)
