Deus Ex with Vampires is four months from release. Regardless of how well it sells or how critically acclaimed it is, The Chinese Room will likely be dissolved after its release, with a skeleton team being used to finish up the DLC and fix bugs. Parent company Sumo Digital isn't interested in making their own games anymore. They want to exclusively work on contract/outsource support dev for other studios.

the trailer with the stupid fucking voice speaking to you 24/7 confirmed that for me. if you're trying to write something impactful, i.e. not slop, you need to give the player some time in silence to digest things they've said or done. if I'm in a creepy warehouse, I don't need my wacky sidekick going, "Oi Fyre™, ain't this warehouse a bit creepy?"

Eh, Fabien underwent an extensive rewrite, so it's hard to tell what he's like now. The marketing has been a train wreck because it's so confusing and there are now layers of contradictory marketing material that no longer represents the game that, I must emphasize, is coming in 4 months. It's done. It has an ERSB rating. The lead writer left the studio a week ago. Something like 3/4 of the co-writers have left, too.

The setting was woke before that word even existed. A vampire masquerade game made in the year 2025, is going to be one of the worst games ever made.
I have less than zero hope it's going to be good in any aspect. 0/10 in story, art direction, writing, gameplay, performance and everything else.

The game's villain has been kept under wraps. There's no pictures of him. In the Hardsuit version he was Mr Damp, the Malkavian. Now TCR's version has an individual known as "The Gardener", who is also a Malkavian. There might be some connection to the Volunteer Park Conservatory. But it would be too obvious if "The Gardener" were literally an unassuming guy working as a gardener, right?

There was some concept art for Damsel in one of the dev diaries, so presumably they completely scrapped the weird looking Hardsuit model. Strange that they're so hellbent on keeping her final game look under wraps, though. (In keeping with all the other baffling marketing decisions that I've given up on trying to understand.)

In the context of VTMB, I think a lot of criticisms of "woke" beyond dumb shit are just people upset about the feeling that the setting has been sanitized to cater to the tabletop audience not wanting to be uncomfortable. It's not sleazy anymore.

These are the Camarilla characters we know about. We have no idea if Elif's character model was reused. If so, she's an unannounced character. But the entire cast has been rewritten from the ground up. They're completely new characters who just look like the old ones. Lou is an exception, but she has a new actress, her surname is different, and they changed her clan, and also her role in the story is different and her personality is completely different and so on.

Samuel (Hardsuit) becoming Tolly (TCR) is another example of the ground-up rewrite. Samuel was a very professional, serious Nosferatu. Tolly is something else entirely.

Insult to Deus Ex to compare this trash to it. It has looked like dogshit in every iteration we have seen, despite undergoing a dozen rewrites and passing through two different developer teams. There's something ethereally disgusting about the visuals of this game, it's genuinely depressing how they managed to get the worst of both worlds of realistic and stylized. And god, the "gameplay", if you can call it that is as if someone boiled down everything bad about modern first person action combat into one system.

Disgusting.
