The Monster Hunter Tri trailers and opening cinematic is what got me to buy FU on the PSP since I didn't have a Wii. I downloaded a Wii emulator just to play Tri before Lagi came to Wilds but after the third session it stopped recognising my controller inputs no matter what I did, and I haven't been able to play since. It's weird how the Akuma gear scales with your weapon damage but they don't give you the riceball charm that lets you actually deal comparable damage with the other weapons.

Both Lagi and Seregios were never meant to be title updates. They were unfinished and cut from the launch because Wilds is a rushed pile of shit. Introducing underwater would require too many resources, for a mechanic that only a handful of monsters would genuinely take advantage of. Plus I doubt they want to deal with the balancing issues that come from having to adjust for every weapon underwater, and some other problems like depth perception. Just to put things into perspective, Zorah was a huge drain on resources in World, and it was used for two missions.

Amatsu simulates Lagi's underwater moveset by floating in the air and Almudron is half submerged in the ground to give the illusion of swimming. Wilds is going to dress up those animations.

Underwater combat wasn't even that bad in Tri on a lot of weapons. I played lance and switch axe and never had issues (though to be fair, lance was easily the best underwater weapon). Really they just need to let the player be faster and add more interesting attacks to some weapons. I'd they worked on underwater than push gimmicks like clutch claw, slingers, and rampages every game.
