NTA but I think it's unfair and hasty to immediately jump to the conclusion that people outright ignored it instead of just simply not knowing about it.
The flow of information is a fickle thing and if we go by the ~500k votes, there isn't really a lot of people in youtube scales who genuinely supports this movement. It's incredibly possible, if not outright probable, that people simply didn't know.

One MMO youtuber, Josh Strife Hayes for example, only started to talk about it a month ago because he didn't know about. He started to talk about it before this current wave of youtube videos so it would be also wrong to say that it would be riding the wave.

29:15 whaaat a fucking faggot. GET A LOAD OF THIS GUY OMG
"it's ok for a game to implode at the end. LIKE BANKSY. THAAAT'S THEEEIR RIGHT"
TELL ME THIS WAS NOT SAID.

2:45 - 4:15 he planned to make a game, by the looks of it he already BANKED on it it will do well and then he had to look for a company to provide a service for him to a) maintain long-term multiplayer and b) to help him sunset it? is that fag for real?
regulations like stop killing games would've allowed him to know he has to make it available either way and calculate that into his costs if he wanted to enter that market, otherwise it would've been a bottom feeder release anyway which he also could've used to calculate into his costs.

how could he have worked for Valve, if he exactly knew that every game they made, had dedicated server binaries for everyone to download. i really wonder what type of role he had there, certainly not technical by the looks of it and he has not extracted anything from there while he was there.

Unless he does SBMM EOMM Activision scammery, then there's no need to worry about tweaking the algo every week to min/max player levels & "their satisfaction". you create an algo for latency & rank and be done with it, then reduce parameters after N amount of minutes to not make it a forever search. there are so many possibilities. or better yet, have variables to tweak in the server software you provide.
it could be so simple.

even consolefags could potentially benefit from this and Sony and MS will get raped a new one while we're at it

Gamers are the lowest IQ people on earth and have continually voted against their best interests. They are paying for online on console, they gladly accepted the death of physical copies on PC, they accepted full-priced games having microtransactions and they fucking LOVE FOMO battle passes.
Not a single person with an IQ above 90 would ever be against this initiative (unless there's something weird in the fine print I haven't noticed). Unfortunately, that means the overwhelming majority of gaymers do not meet that threshold.

Maybe you're not seeing the bigger picture here, I argue the only reason slimy CEOs can maximize shareholder value is by getting something out of the consumer.

I'm on the fence about this initiative because I don't believe in using regulation as a magic wand for problems we could nip at the bud instead.

In fact, I think regulation makes it harder for competition entering the market. Perhaps that's even why we're in this situation. Wouldn't we want more options to choose from instead?

being forced to account for an end of life plan isn't that much of a burden. If you develop with a sunset in mind it comes at no cost. Plenty of companies are already doing that regardless
It's like GDPR forcing companies to deal with privacy and security.
Sure, having to hash data instead of storing everything in plain text is a bit of extra work, but if you're not following what is the "state of the art" you're at risk of being penally liable in case of fuck ups. And if you can't afford to hash passwords, maybe you shouldn't be in the business

>Wouldn't we want more options to choose from instead?
naive thinking here, anon but I get your honesty.
In a perfect world we wouldn't even need this but since as you said, CEOs ARE slimy, they'll more often than not try to give the consumer either a faulty product, or a product with a timer hidden inside (Samsung and Apple planned obsolescence, Lightbulbs companies purposefully selling lightbulbs that burns after ~2k hours to keep selling them, Teslas odometers counting miles / km faster than what was actually driven to avoid warranty repairs etc)
So, taken this into account, it's only fair to get governmetns involved to protect consumers, since more often than not, people aren't literate enough to make a thoughtful purchase, hence justifying the companies half measures in the process

Big businesses were at some point small businesses, small businesses that wouldn't be able afford to do the things regulation would compel them to do.

Like you for example, what if you wanted to get into a market? You may be under the impression that it requires a massive overhead of money, but I argue this is because of your obligations under regulation.

Do you see what I mean?

I believe that we could allow the consumer to accept the risks they are comfortable with, instead of making false promises of safety between consumers and producers.

1. You are free to allow what you want to allow.

2. Selling water with lead in it could potentially be useful for purposes other than directly drinking.

3. When choosing a product at a store, you are free to exercise your discretion, the same way you don't buy a bottle of bleach and drink it because it contains water.

4. I do not believe in inherently trusting anyone to ensure my wellbeing, especially strangers.

You haven't named a single way in which it'd hurt consumers, how come?

Last year when I learned of this initiative I was against it, because I believed in things like muh copyright, patents and the like.
Today I can safely say copyright and patents are fake and gay bullshit that consist of certain companies using state power to artificially maintain their market positions.
Signed the petition today
I should be able to play my games however I want, even if the company stops supporting them.

i'm surprised people are trying to spin this into a political, left vs right thing, when in reality it offers only advantages to consumers and the only ones who might end up slightly inconvenienced by it are publishers.
