Even if you considered the painted people real people, that's not what they are in Maelle's ending; they're all just ideas of their former selves, reincarnated the way Maelle wants to see them, the complete opposite of "See things as they are, not how you want them to be."
Their emotions, thoughts, and individuality are all just illusions. Essentially Alicia's playthings that only exist until the day she dies, making the real Verso's sacrifice pointless.
