For Americans, if you don't have health insurance (or have shitty health insurance) you can go into crippling debt during childbirth from hospital costs. Then you have to worry about doctor visits which will quickly rack up cost. Most of the cost for babies is medical and diapers while the rest of the cost is spread out over the next 18 years. Even with my pretty decent health insurance it's going to cost me about $200 for childbirth and then $15 every single doctor visit.
