It took them until FFXII to finally move on from turn based when many JRPG franchises already did action or combat in the 90s.

I have no idea how FF ever became the face of JRPGs but it only hurt the genre.

New Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games are going to have to be made on lower budgets because RPG games with turn-based combat only sell like 3 to 6 million units if they are successful. Square Enix's adventure and RPG games with action based combat tend to sell a lot more units with the exception of FF 16 and Forspoken.

Of course Neir Automata could have just sold a lot of units because of 2B's somewhat sexualized design, but libtards might get mad if I point that out. Square Enix's Tomb Raider games on the other hand sold a lot of units, same as FF15, and the character designs weren't that sexualized or provocative.

is an empty promise, they already make turn-based games, such as Octopath Traveler, so of course they will make more of them
that does not mean any new FF title will be turn-based, ignoring the FFT demake
