The point of the factions in Skyrim is that they're all at their low point. The Dark Brotherhood has had all its chapters but Skyrim's eradicated, and Skyrim's doesn't follow the Night Mother any longer. The Thieves Guild has its boss actively stealing from the guild for years and Nocturnal casting a bad luck curse on the whole thing

I can't free them from the Black-Briars EVEN IF I AM THE FUCKING LISTENER, I can't take them with me as companions(which I grant you wasn't possible in the other games if I recall but even the Mage College had companions in Skyrim, and at least the Dark Brotherhood gives you a horse and a summonable companion. If you have anything worth protecting you would probably have a ward that alerts you if magic is being used.
If TES isn't set in Hammerfell I hope the final quest of the thieves guild involves a no magic no kill heist. By no magic I mean no scrolls, enchanted gear, spells, staves, etc.
If it is Hammerfell they can do whatever as I won't play it.

I recently played through the thieves guild again after installing a bunch of sneak, crime and thief tool mods.
It was cool doing things like planting tripwires and bear traps. It also added a bunch of special arrows like those from thief.

FORCED TO JOIN DURING THE MAIN QUEST, is 0.5% about stealing unless you really really really really really really like radiant quests, and you spend most of the time learning how the thieves guild suddenly has super duper nightclown leather assassins who are direct contractors to nocturnal and the guild leader they wasted the voice of GARRET THE MASTER THIEF on is actually the bad guy who stole from nocturnal but it's bad this time unlike when the gray fox stole the cowl because reasons, also you have to sell your soul (again) to defeat Mercer even though he's easier than any random dungeon draugr fight.

Every single one of them is designed not with "become the leader dude" as a bonus gift for completing the questline, but with that as the entire purpose of the questline.
