The thing that really fucking annoys me about his actual stance (not the disingenuous one he keeps presenting) is that we already have a live case of what happens when a massive (for the time) live service shuts down while the community has access to the tools to easily host private servers to make the online portion of the game still playable years after service, and that game is PSO1.

It happened more due to how exposed PSO1 was, making it easy for the community to reverse engineer the tools to host a private server, but it did happen and you've been able to still play PSO1 online, even on modded native hardware if you wanted to to this day. Did the existence of PSO1 private servers hurt Sega's follow-ups with PSU and PSO2 later down the line? Absolutely not.

Sega says that PSU was overall more financially successful in it's lifetime than PSO1 was, and PSO2 went on to become the single most profitable game Sega had ever produced in it's entire company history. All that access to private server does is just behold the develops to ensure that their professionally produced product that they release in the future is of better quality than what hobbyists are hosting in their free time.

Even now, I can assure you that if Sega ever released a remaster or a remake of PSO1 in the future, that game will still be much more successful, and see much more player activity than what you are seeing on the private servers that are hosted today. It's a complete and utter nothingburger of an issue.
