Yeah, the game doesn't open up until you finish the first area and get to town. You're about halfway there.

The best attack combo is probably XYXY since it does a bunch of hits and does more damage, but I'm a fan of XYYY since the attacks are quick and simple so it doesn't seem to get interrupted as much. Plus I like the impact, especially with a Beta charge.

Okay just finished the reject adam ending and what I can say based on Lily's reaction
the space colony wasn't supposed to envoy envelop earth. Lily had been stranded on Earth for 2 years so she probably remembers it very different since the last time. Eve has no reaction to it meaning she already saw it like that. This could imply that over the years, Mother Sphere somehow turned the entire colony into some sort of dysphon sphere orbiting earth like a cage, probably to keep naytiba and its other inhabitants from escaping the planet.

Because you're not supposed to use keep them airborne or stun them. This game isn't a combo juggler game like Bayo/DMC.
Sub items work like in MGR where they're meant to either play safely chipping off an boss' hp, shaving off health with slow projectile or for boss gimmicks like the ohko mechanics later on where you have to shoot floating objects.
Also, they're also primarily for destroying boss shields.
The game as a whole takes after sekiro/MGR than it does DMC/Bayo. The fact that you can't air juggle should be evident of this.

Usually, in general with games, I dont like to diverge too much from the default outfit, feels non-canon and I like to establish the iconic classic "look" of the character first playthrough before going into wacky outfit territory. I want the real outfit burned in my mind.
But with Stellar Blade its clear you are suppose to diverge from her starting look. There are so many outfits, hair changes, even your crew gets some outfits. I have really enjoyed this game, the combat is fun most of the time, the boss fights are lots of fun, a lot of the music is very charming but most of all the outfits and Eve are great. I'm midway through NG+ now. As much as I enjoy it, the story is fucking awful. All the characters are boring, the sidequests are boring, Adam is the blandest, most boring character I've ever seen. The whole mystery the characters are chasing down is so obvious it makes me lose sympathy for the characters when they are so blindly retarded. Oh no shit? The freakish android people aren't real humans? Tachy gets her robot ass arm cut off, of course I know she's an android. Then you get to Xion and everyone has metal faces, everyone's souls are "memory sticks" and Adam is the only one who's not a colony member or robofreak, gee I wonder what's going on with him? Everyone emotes very oddly as well. The voice acting is stilted enough but the characters have these weird anime gestures that don't sync quite right to the voices. If it's not music, Eve's shitter, Eve's clothing, cans, music or Raven's boobs it sucks.

I hope they do a sequel with a better plot and characters with some life to them. That and more semi spooky indoor sections like the Abyss levels. More space stuff too.

My go to is that for side quests and general exploration, I use whatever since you can just handwave it as Eve using day to day outfits.
But when fighting Alpha Naytiba, I use at least a planet diving suit or the kunoichi since it looks the most combat type out of Eve's other apparels.
Also, make sure to use the Tachy's captain suit when fighting both Ravens for extra justice.

I think what people misunderstand about the story is that it's not supposed to be like NieR Replicant where the game doesn't expect you to think that the baddies are actually former humans and stuff, with this game it's more so focused on how EVE and everyone around her reacts to that relevation and how they grow from it.

They are surprised that they were created and are not real humans yet they talk about their own AIs and AI damage necessitating new parts when even to them surely the word "artificial" should clue them in, or they should have a different word for it. Aside from that, it's doubly frustrating because the characters are so flat and boring even when they're reacting to new information. They're all just boring frankly. I think it’s very possible that every “division” is made up of identical clones. You never see any of Raven’s companions but Lily and Iberis have the same face. Tachy is the outlier but, unless I’m misremembering it, she had a designation different than Eve

According to her bio, it says that Tachy was a decorated soldier and leader of the 7th Airborne. She could have been a veteran of previous squads but not from the same generation as Eve and the rest. We never learn about the 6th airborne, so it's possible she was from that and got reassigned after a promotion.
