Can someone give me a reason why there isn’t an option to just race on the 3 lap traditional courses? That way everyone could be satisfied, both the fans of the new intermission courses and the fans of the traditional course structure

Because nintendo spent 8years making those intermissions so you should respect the value

It's really just this. I feel like Nintendo will relent eventually, but they're going to try everything else but that first.

Honestly, if they're so insistent on people playing the intermission tracks they should at least add an extra lap to the actual track when you get there. The entire commute just feels like a fight for your starting position in a single lap race that ends before it can really even begin.

The only intermission track with any real substance is that wall leading to Airship Fortress.

They’re just differentiating this title compared to the other games. I feel like modern day live service and forever game is rotting peoples brain. Every game now needs to satisfy everybody. Has every option. Every mode to play.

This is all great but that is muddying the waters between games. Increase dev cost among other things.

Nintendo is dead set on making this game this game. That game is that game. Not everything needs to be a launcher. Mario Kart World doesn’t need to be like Mario Kart 8.

Also, them cutting all the collab characters was already a sign that MK is its own thing not Smash Kart or Nintendo Kart. They value the distinctness within the brand.

It is actually so difficult to just play a 3 lap race without specifically selecting it that it's making me wonder. Consider all this:

- Regular Cups have one 3 lap race, followed by three 2 intermission laps + 1 track lap races.

- Knockout Tour has no 3 lap races by design

- Online has 3 lap races but are probably the least likely option to be chosen for any given race following the new update

- Open World only does pseudo-3 lap races for the SNES tracks built into the overworld.

Therefore the only modes where you regularly play 3 lap races would be Time Trial or offline versus if you go out of your way to only select those track options. I hardly know any of the actual track layouts because of this, and a lot of them are only because they're returning tracks. I currently have no mental image of how Whistlestop Summit or most other new tracks are laid out as I haven't put any time into Time Trials yet.

I still think they should just add a separate mode for classic races, but considering MK8 fully works on the Switch 2 I kind of understand wanting MK World to be different. It's not like this style of racing game is unheard of either. It kind of reminds me of arcade/rally style racing games, just with mario kart chaos thrown in.

There is an option for it in private lobbies.
And if that's not enough, the real answer is that they probably want to make the road courses more engaging so that players do not feel the need to vote random and to do that they need to get feedback/data from how they pan out right now.
Most of the feedback is
>straight lines bad and have no tech (from people that do not know how to draft and miss all of their green shell tosses and do not know how to banana trap)
>you can't use the wall riding or grinding (from people that don't realize you can wall ride on the buses and trick off of them and that you can grind the rails on the side of the roads)
>you get hit too much (from people driving in the middle of the fucking action every time w/ webms posted, where that's where the nearly indestructible Gold Shells are and where people who are trying to collect coins are, or from people driving close to the areas where Mega Mushrooms and Stars are taking cuts)
The only genuine feedback I can see from most discussions is that mushrooms are too OP because of the cuts you can take offroad in this game, everything else is just because this game has Mario Kart in the name so people are playing it like they have been for the past decade.
