once a week with a longer run would have been a hell of a lot better, one of those things where the systems/rewards team had absolutely no idea what they were doing putting X where and it ended up poorly integrated with the game as a whole

for posterity's sake though, Hamlet and all the rest of the systems team guys (responsible for legiondaries 1.0, artifact power 1.0 [where ap was something to straight grind instead of a mid-tier power boost], azerite gear, and covenants 1.0) got poached to riot during dragonflight development so now they're all working vaporware no one will ever have to play and getting paid 2x as much as blizz was paying them.

the one actually kind of hard mode run version they added was one of very few challenging solo experiences they've done in wow

Fairly interesting they're getting rid of addons. Most players just download them and don't even use them to their full extent. It's like background noise. So, losing them isn't entirely an issue unless they lie about the whole "we'll make encounters that won't rely on weakauras." They've had a pretty big hardon for introducing mechanics that require coordination with a tight time constraint. Especially ones involving RNG. I hope they realize certain mythic designs just won't be possible for guilds outside the top 400 without just severely gimping mechanics towards the end of the patch (like they always do but more excessive somehow). Of course they're not targeting any of the addons involving Auction House manipulation or crafting/gathering stuff. Can't hurt the bot population of course.

Blizzard hasn't once been able to deliver on their promises. There's always a caveat, always something they miss or need to improve, that people see issue with the moment it's announced, only for an improvement to happen a year later or in the next xpac. Like by sheer luck all classes are pretty competitive this tier, but that's also only considering raid as even if every spec can reach the upper echelon of dungeon play, specs like shadow priest are tearing their cocks off in frustration because they were pretty much abandoned this tier. There's always something that gets ignored with zero proactive changes. Last tier was a fight to see which of the big meta specs could get the most buffs/nerfs over and over. To the point that shaman was already good last tier and they accidentally made them way better in the halfway patch. They spent forever tweaking the same 4 specs every patch and everyone else got a little change maybe one time if they were lucky. It's one of many weird things they do with patch cycles that reminds me of the incompetence of Riot Games.

Plenty of people are still running the old raids because it's good gold.. they should add mount drops to the raid for more incentives to keep playing but don't because of the cash shop. The main reason why engagement is so low is it didn't launch with raids so anyone who cared about raiding quit immediately. The reasoning is that combat addons trivialize mechanics, and as a results mechanics have had to become more punishing in an attempt to matter. With combat addons a mechanic might give you a couple of seconds to react and act accordingly, without said addons the player can be given more time because the player has to notice and react on its own rather than having an addon yelling at it. Furthermore it makes filler mechanics that can't be detected by addons - such as don't step on thing on ground - less necessary because other mechanics are more meaningful with the absense of combat addons.
So in a sense the reasoning is they can actually make the game less complex and / or punishing because there's not some addon doing all the heavy lifting for the player. Fewer, simpler and less punishing mechanics will still provide a reasonable degree of difficulty.
