Those games are all playable without the Wiki.

The issue is that modern gamers are obsessed with fully exploring them and, most importantly, playing them in the optimal way all the time.

I usually just do a couple of blind playthroughs, then if I'm stuck I check Wikis, but there's people playing the game normally that go "W-Wait, what if this sword isn't the best I can currently obtain???" and go check if it is true or not.

Borderlands' issue is that you get all your guns pre-assembled, so you'll mostly notice the "core" guns as different even if you can get a ton of variants of each. Making a build where you have control over most of the moving parts is a lot more involved.
