>>713748253truly. obviously none of this divide with politics being shoved into a former hobby turned corporatized venue existed but that's an easy and new problem to complain about. what really made it cool was that nerds and shit made up the majority in online games and companies catered to them along with min maxing and relying on detailed guides for everything wasn't the norm. people just played the game in a way that was fun and interacting with other players felt fresh since we hadn't had years of online communication like this yet. raiding was inefficient because we didn't have years to refine how to tank, pull, and rotate like we do now, it was just people trying. the majority played the game for various reasons of and it it enhanced your enjoyment online because most people were like minded and focused on playing. you try playing WoW now, new content feels boring because we datamined everything before it released, we deal with every encounter in the same anal ways, blizzard focuses purely on endgame grinding mythic shit while blasting new players through leveling with them usually not being able to finish an expansion's story before hitting max and getting thrown into the new slop just for them to be blasted through that too.
it's designed to keep mazed rats addicted not draw in a new round of players.
I miss old internet but what I miss more is the way the fewer people on the internet acted around others. I'm 100 percent sure if we didn't have political pushing in every online space for marketing reasons we wouldn't be as bitter. annoyed things became sanitized and casualized but we'd enjoy newer garbage a bit better if everyone still focused on having fun instead of min maxing their gameplay/ making their online experience an echo chamber instead of actually playing/people didn't become weirdly anti social in online spaces
