When I realized how much more effective the AR and Warthog gun can be by tapping the fire button at a reasonable pace, the game became even more fun.

With that said, the AR should have always hit dead-center if you single-fire so it could've been better.

I always use it when playing on legendary, laso too.
most of the time it's used to take out grunts quickly (or the flood), but even on elites it's perfectly usable if you're taking their shield down before hand.

I don't like them, they are bullet sponges and have a mindless AI that become insufferable when they grab weapons and I HATE it when that weapon is a ROCKET LAUNCHER. Halo 2 and 3 onwards only made them worse and I hated everysingle moment of Cortana in 3.

Needler in 2 is a downgrade from 1. It goes:
1 - gun is ok. Not great not bad.
2 - gun is awful when not dual wielded and ok when dual wielded.
3 - gun is back to being ok, and even slightly every better than it was in 1.
Reach - gun gets even better.
4 - gun gets even better.
5 - gun gets even better to the point that it starts making BR fags cry.
6 - gun gets a downgrade. It’s still good but not as busted as it was in 5. BR fags are still butthurt though.

Lol I won't deny rocket flood in CE is the stuff of nightmares but they are generally fine in all the games except maybe CE again. They are only ever tanky in 1 and that's only if you aren't running a pistol or shotgun(which you probably should be anyways). In 2 they get much easier to deal with and in 3 they are even easier except for that stupid needle form which yes is fucking garbage is a controller thrower.

The CE plasma pistol is the best weapon in the game and probably the entire series.

you're already using that other gun a good majority of the time considering how common it is.
Obviously it's not ideal to use it on elites if you have something like a needler, but it's perfectly usable if you don't have anything else or don't mind playing a bit aggressive. You can rely more on nades too.
It's good for clearing out crowds of grunts, being able to kill the elites they're with is a bonus.

Basically they took the helmet and used the braids for the slip-lip mouth armor, and the plates on the body are pretty similar to elite armor already, with big-ass gaps and only specific areas covered.

I spent so many hours with custom edition, PC was outright the superior way to experience Halo 1. The stupid giant maps with longswords and pelicans and jets and shit, a thousand normal maps with all levels of quality and unique stuff. Brute ghosts, "dual-wielding" weapons that were two in one, random mech vehicles. That hyrule field map with all the OOT weapons and a sniper rifle up in the ranch tower.
Does anyone remember the 007 runway map? The one where you could clip through the invisible wall at the edge, slide down a specific seam in the geometry, and get teleported into some kind of nightclub lobby area that itself had another secret wall you could walk through? CE maps had so much soul infused into them.

Recently I actually found myself wondering if the Assault Rifle was actually a shitter weapon or not, so I decided to do a gimmick run on Heroic where my stipulation was that it was the only "main" gun I use (still using grenades in some scenarios because I know it's not THAT much of a sleeper weapon) and I think it's actually more than solid as a starting weapon:
>Absolutely gargantuan amount of ammo, especially when the Flood show up to easily replenish
>Grunts get shredded easily of course
>If you tap your fire like >>713744491 you can easily shoot the exposed area of Jackal shields, and they always reel back/flinch so killing them is easy work
>Hunters are the weakest and most linear they've ever been in the series, it's easy to handle them outside of just being bullet sponges (but melee actually does do damage here, so you can alternate to not use up too much ammo)
>Blue and even red Elites can actually be handled better than you'd expect, you just really need to fight in close quarters or otherwise close the distance so that they're baited into trying to melee you, then you fuck them up with a backsmack (fastest and most consistent melee of all the weapons too)
>Weirdly enough, it's actually less effective against infected humans/Elites than I remember; they're not actually staggered/slowed down by the AR and will generally get up in your face if they're charging right at you, but I only just realized that if you're crouching (and maybe moving backwards?) it causes a surprising amount of their melee attacks to whiff
>Even weirder, despite being literal robots it seems like the Sentinels get fucked by the AR more than the Flood
I kept the grenades purely as a weapon against the gold and black Elites because I knew the AR alone would get absolutely raped by the strongest Elites, but if that's what it takes then I think it's actually great for what it is

Sometimes the bullets can nearly fly out of the reticule even when just fired two at a time. On rare occasions the bullets will leave the reticule even that early. The Assault Rifle's flaws can be mitigated, as your webm shows, but they still very much exist.

A proper flak fuel rod gun like the AA wraiths from 3 would be pretty rad, though those do still have pretty hard tracking. I don't know how you'd expect to hit a banshee that can evade with a slow projectile, and the splaser just deletes anything in LoS.

The Needler could have a hundred things done to it, but I've always thought it was a difficult weapon to get right. For my mod, I gave it very slow projectiles that quickly accelerate, combined with the limited tracking range gives it a sweet spot where it will absolutely destroy someone. I also made it stick to map geometry and detonate with a small AOE. The same AOE can delay shield recharge.

You could have the projectile speed up/increase in size after it travels a certain distance. If you could get the fuel to work as a anti air weapon then yeah the splaser would be pretty much obsolete.

I always found it kinda viscerally satisfying to use somehow. The huge clip size and abundance of ammo is a big part of it, but I think the biggest thing is that sound. For such a rapid firing gun, the sound is so hefty and satisfying. It makes it feel better to shoot than it really is.

Gold Pro. It's a Reach mod meant to play more like Halo 1.
I had a number of different iterations for that gun, but I like the current one the most. I learned later that they functioned similarly in Halo 2's beta, but my tracking requires you to reasonably stay on target.
webm related is what I did for the AR. It's inaccurate if you spray, but can stay accurate if you burst it. If you zoom, the fire rate is lowered enough that it remains accurate. Good for cleanup, but it usually won't get a kill from full.

For campaign 2's gameplay was trash. It had the best writing and music, but that's it. The level design was garbage corrdiors and wave defense areas. The weapon sandbox was bigger than CE but much more shallow, many guns like the pistol were nerfed to hell and sucked unless you dual wielded. Then of course legendary difficulty was a meme, but heroic is fine. Modding can fix the weapons and the difficulty, but not the levels.

Also because its graphics pushed the OG xbox to its limit, they actually aged worse than CE's simpler more colorful art style. Shit looks ugly. Fortunately H2A was mostly very well done and is the best the franchise has ever looked even today, much better than CEA. It's a shame you can't have original sounds with remastered graphics, but oh well.

This was always the case. I think most people are going by multiplayer rather than the single player campaign where gun balance isn't as much of an issue. In multiplayer the problem is the pistol is just too damn strong so in truth it should actually be the primary gun not the AR. Then you are going to usually want to grab a power weapon for map control so that means usually the rockets and sniper. This leaves the AR as sort of the odd gun out. The pistol in mp is just way too good.

This is also true. Usually you want to fire in bursts with further away enemies but once up close just unload on them. In Halo CE you get 60 shots before a reload unlike in all the later games. If the Halo CE AR had like 90-100 in the clip before a reload I think it would be looked at in a much more positive light. So it would basically be like a machine gun that is used in close quarters combat. Would have been a lot better off had all the Halo AR's in the later games had this same general concept as well. I see no issue upping the magazine either since they would still always get outclassed by the games designated precision rifle/pistol. But at least for mp you get a perfectly great backup weapon that can allow you to truly spray and pray as the AR seems intended for.

H2A is one of the few decent remasters to the point that the degraded elements are nitpicks rather than glaring. Little details were lost like the intro cutscene's crossfade between Truth's halo headdress and the moon, the carbine's modeled ammo indicator, scorpion shell trails are broken so they only appear when it hits, the new sounds for covenant everything are worse across the board with the sword being the most glaring downgrade, audio mixing is worse (but this is a general MCC issue rather than H2A specific). Overall it's great, worth recommending for someone's first playthrough if they're allergic to classic graphics.

The cutscenes weren't the best directed, but the visual work done on them was amazing. The remaster also did a great job at preserving the dark lighting of the original. CEA in comparison is so embarrassing, it's like the equivalent of Dragon Ball Evolution where the director admitted he didn't even understand the appeal of the original and just wanted to use the series to boost his own name.

I think a lot of people give the AR shit without considering its place in dynamic balance.

Its an acceptable weapon at close to medium range against jackals and grunts that you'll throw away quickly to replace with an energy weapon that is equally effective against them, but also with added utility against elites. This holds for most of the game until you hit The Flood, and suddenly the AR has a variety of advantageous characteristics:

It has a broad but manageable spread that can be pumped into enemies and close range, but then also painted over infection forms to take them out. It has almost perfectly controllable ammo economy, letting you pop individual flood at distance as well. Against carrier forms you can hold it down to drop them and continue to paint the swarm around them and so on.

In multiplayer it's a neutral weapon that's not good against shields or at long range, giving spawning players something to use while they hunt for better weapons on the field. Pistol starts just turn into head clicking, which isn't necessarily bad, but it reduces the incentive to go weapon hunting.

in the last 3 levels they throw so many rocket flood (and rocket launchers / ammo in general) at you to the point you can just keep a rocket launcher on you in case you happen to run into some of those spec ops elites

flood kind of change in 2 and 3 where precision weapons can neutralize them but they will get back up, so you can use precision for crowd control till you can body them with a brute shot or sword
