Current SE target audience weren´t even alive when the company was called Squaresoft and making good games and surely those older than 25 already moved on. I've only played FF1-6. I don't think I cared about the story or characters in them all that much. Maybe a bit better than other jrps of the era, but not by much.

The combat is actually atrocious. At its core, it actually has a lot of really great systems, completely unique characters, tons of customization, etc. except literally none of this matters since you can (and the game is balanced around) just dodge / parry everything.

The JRPG / action combat is just a distraction from FFXVI's problems anyways.

It's a terrible game because the story is terrible, it has literally no RPG systems (even DMC has more meaningful character progression), and its sidequests are shockingly bad, like it was designed by someone who hasn't played a video game since the 80s. The "highlight" of the game is the equivalent to jangling keys in front of a baby. If you legitimately enjoyed the bahamut fight I actually think that is really embarrassing.

XV had a huge hype machine going back years before release; people loved the hot characters, story ideas, and aesthetic
They completely blew XV by making it a directionless and incomplete mess
That's the main reason why there was such a huge falloff for XVI
They got greedy with 7R, and those ugly woke NPCs didn't help

Basically, they've been riding on momentum and hype, and I think that's finally ran out. FFXVII is going to need to be as beloved as VII through X if SE doesn't want FF to enter Sonic territory or die altogether. I'm not hopeful that they have it in them.

Problem is you just want an action game not an RPG and that's why for FF FF7 Rebirth's combat is the most appropriate. You target weaknesses, status effects, there is team composition, team attacks, different builds through materia (or jobs) and because of the stagger system, and how is utilized in the game, it forces you to approach enemies in different ways. KH combat is just dodging and button mashing and that is all the is to it. Straight up brainless action kind of like FF16.

Not to mention FF7 Rebirth's combat can be evolved in so many ways too. Can be made even more complex, tactical and strategic. So much potential to keep making it better and better and it is so unique and in brand with the Active Time Battle system they have been pushing since FF4. How can you retards not see that? Or the potential? It's incredible what they created here. The fucking best combat ever.

Because I didn't asked for this. I wanted to save elixirs for hard mode, the game says fuck you. I wanted to grind materia duplicates like in the original, the game says fuck you. In return me and people like me are saying fuck you to Square. If this was not FF7 then people like me wouldn't care. It is a good hybrid of action combat/RPG but it doesn't fit FF7 at all.
