Not at all. In RE1 you actually get quickly overwhelmed with all the key items you can find with no idea where to use them, and there are enemies all over the place. They also don't have predictable jumpscares every 2 seconds like 7 tries with the spawns.

I don't understand why it's so hard to innovate in the survival/ horror genre. After all these years the only attempt was changing to 1st person which is either hit or miss when considering VR applications.

I mean, I'm happy that Capcom finally course corrected with the creation of REngine and RE7 but that doesn't mean much when you consider that the Japanese mindset is practically incapable of understanding the West's appreciation of the IP. Gaming becoming mainstream really hurt RE in the RE5/RE6 era and I think they are fully capable of sliding back into trash.

I also wonder if there is some kind of friction between the reception of the IP in regards to the RE movies and other media (stuck in RE6 lines of thinking) versus the recovery of the game series.

But a whole other character or even Leon himself can still be the main playable character when the game actually opens up. The only thing we've seen of Grace so far is a teaser trailer and her in this hospital. I found RE7 and RE8 pretty boring compared to RE2 Remake and RE3 Remake and RE4 Remake. I'm not even a NuFan. I've been with the series since RE2 on the PS1. The only game I missed out on was the og RE1 on PS1 but I played all the other games day 1.
