What did this series of games do wrong to end up falling into oblivion and overshadowed by Ultimate Ninja Storm?

gamecube did not sell well and ultimate ninja got all the budget and attention. They were only going to make new clash games if they could be lazy which they were able to do until the wii era.

Ninja Storm graphics and simple controls made it more appealing to fans of Naruto. Arena fighters were big back then thanks to Tenkaichi, with the whole selling point being that you could re-live fights from the series in 3D.

Clash of Ninja appealed more to gamers
Ultimate Ninja and storm subsequently appealed more to fans. I loved both series to death. I had every Naruto game on GBA, Xbox, gamecube, Wii, DS and PS2. I was disappointed in storm games at first because the gameplay was less frantic but storm 2/3 and their online modes rekindled my interest. You know remember laggy users spamming Minato throws online, Storm 2 Sasori, shippuden Kiba in NUNS3 pre-nerf

because arena and mousu are very cheap and fast to make.
Only Dragon ball has huge budgets but even then it gets fucked (see sparking zero)
A naruto 2d game could be extremely popular if well done
Clash of ninja is still played professionally in few groups

How in the ever loving fuck after all these years there are still no Naruto RPG where you make your own OC and starts in one of the villages until it ends at ninja war 4. It's freaking easy money. The ninja world is one of the most popular fanfiction settings already, and the power set and factions are diverse enough to satisfy every players.

You canโ€™t compare the two. Rise and Broken Bond have rpg aspects while Storm is basically all flashy fights. Thereโ€™s an open world aspect to Storm games but itโ€™s very rudimentary, no real platforming or movement based abilities because walk to the next NPC, click through some dialogue then go to the flashy fight.

I recommend the 360 Naruto games to anyone looking for a solid, nostalgic Naruto experience. The fights in Storm are fine, somewhat more technical than the 360 games so theyโ€™re both worth at least trying.
Donโ€™t get Storm 4 on Steam though, desu e DLC is broken and basically bricks the whole game now.

The fights were just as shallow and boring as the bamco arena mashers but goddamn if the overworld wasn't fun to traversal and complete objectives in. They really fucking nailed the look and feel of the village, how it is that very specific spot of some modern technology like vending machines while still looking almost medieval in architecture. Loved the racing ones the most.

Jesus christ dude this was one of the videos I had on my hard drive back when I was in my peak Narutard phase, probably something they had up for download in places like IGN or Gametrailers. Those certain animation bits with accompanying sounds had existed in my brain for years and it all just connected after watching that bit. I never even had the game, I only had magazines that were raving about the games and how they required region locking circumventing devices to even play, it all seemed just so mysterious and intriguing.

Goddamn anime used to feel so cool back in the day. Admittedly I was a wee lad back then, but still.

The fact Kishimoto designed Lars' Tekken outfit at all is already peak crossover nonsense, but seeing it actually pop up in Storm 2 made it feel weirdly canon. Dude just showed up dressed like a PS2-era OC dipped in lightning. Honestly though, that design had more personality than half the characters in post-Pain Naruto.

Hell fucking Ubisoft at least experimented and actually captured the essence of the show with Rise of a ninja. Bandai are some of the laziest hacks with all the arena fighters they shit out. There's so many animes that could be great outside of arena fighters and gacha games.

The ninja storm games were great for playing through the story, hair the time they were better than the anime.

I liked GNT4 more than Smash.

I had to Code Breaker all the characters open, though. Ain't got time for that (especially in Japanese).

This series makes me COOM just because it's the very definition of "better than it has any right to be." Frenchy Ubisoft made a better single player Naruto game than Bandai Namco. Granted it was from their best studio at the time (Ubisoft Montreal) but nonetheless you'd not expect that (especially since I think by this point Ubisoft's reputation for low quality was starting to creep into the mainstream consciousness).

Ubisoft didnโ€™t start producing nothing but shit until around ac brotherhood-farcry 4
Ac2, splintercell chaos theroy, pop sands of time, rayman 2-3, farcry 3 all came out pretty close to each other and were extremely beloved games
Their naruto games are at the tail end of this era

It didn't do anything wrong. Tomy, the devs that made the games, shutdown after making GNT Special. Their Shippuuden games still aren't as good as GNT4, they still gave me the competitivefag itch more than the Storm games did.

It maked me realize if Tomy survived a bit longer, Pain would've been a playable character. It hurts.

They're mainly on /co/, last time I checked. Which wasn't for a while, as I don't have Cartoon Network (and Adult Swim by extension) at the moment.
