>>713784880>Stalker 1 was great for it's timeThat game came out before you were even born, didn't it?
>>713784796>How do you "patch in" A-life?Very easily, actually. the real question should be "why didn't they deploy it on release", but then again, the game was clearly in like mid-beta stage on release.
A-life isn't anything more than the game keeping track of a few hundred floating values consisting of IDs and coordinates, and switching the spawn values from randomized to when the floats match player coordinates. Obviously there is a bit more to it, setting up patrol paths and such, but again, it's absolutely not some kind of mammoth undertaking, and the foundations for it were most likely already there.
Despite what people claim, A-life isn't some kind of complex and deep simulation. It actually affects the games very, very little, which is why they thought they could cheat it in the first place, and frankly, again despite what people said, they could have gotten away with it, the random spawns mechanically did not really detract from the game either. People were mad about the lack of A-life because it was something of a symbol for the games, but technically, the random spawns created the exact same gameplay scenarios, the lack of A-life really is a cosmetic thing.
It's nice to see the studio stuck to its tradition, because the exact same thing was an issue with SotC as well.
