10 hours into the game and I JUST CAN'T STAND IT ANYMORE.

Core Gameplay
>basic ass open world slop
>endless ubisoft ? literal checklist
>the terrains are extremely annoying to navigate through
>gathering SUCKS, no more tools, just spam pick up loots while you explore

Combat
>extremely simplistic button masher
>enemy is slow and everything is telegraphed, perfect dodge invalidates everything
>combat ends within 10 seconds cuz normal button mash is too strong, no chance to even use items
>you level up too fast. a level up every 1-3 battle. how the fuck am I over level 50 already at the 2nd area?

Crafting
>extremely dumbed down where you can use any materials for anything
>traits are separate items, so materials are no longer unique. quality is the only thing that matters
>crafting is just mindlessly spamming 30-40 items. huge chore. might as well do it on auto
>no cauldron

Aesthetic
>time wasting chinese gacha-esque ADHD twirling animation on everything from opening and selecting a fucking menu to using item to synthetizing.

Performance
>laggy, low fps, crashed 3 times already in the middle of exploring random areas

Goddamn this game is BAD
and I heard Yumia was the fastest selling Atelier game ever? grim if true.
from making gachaslop to open world slop *sigh*

tldr: one of my favorite franchise was turned into a mass appeal slop for modern global audience
tldr of tldr: Atelier is dead

I've found that it's not an alchemy or action game it's a puzzle game where going from point one to point two is the puzzle. Everything is easy outside of trying to get somewhere.

it's a garbage open world RPG with alchemy on the very minor side. an Atelier game should have everything revolved around Alchemy. Yumia is a complete failure of an Atelier game.
Power scaling is extremely busted that doing alchemy isn't even necessary.
Just get max level, get some equipment, perfect dodge everything and win.

It's really fucking over.
even Ryza 3 with all its dumbing down still feels like an Atelier game, unlike Yumia.
I really like Marie Remake and Sophie 2, but I guess future game will be an intense high speed action open world slop like Yumia too.

if you try hard with crafting (which is trivial) it looks pretty similar much earlier. In the second area for sure, but I'm not sure if there's any material in the first area good enough to make it quite this fast. Still won't take more than 3 item uses though.
main bottleneck is farming particles to unlock the 3rd ring on your items. But some of the early attack items can do this with only medium particles so it's not as much grinding as it might sound like.

Yeah, but that doesn't disprove my point at all. Sophie was the most popular before Ryza came so they were either doing it to placate older fans or trying to see how well an old(ish) game would sell with the new fan-base. Which is still part of an identity problem because it shows they're unsure of what direction to take.

I played atelier Totoro as my first game like 15 years ago.. I got to the end and couldn't beat the boss and because of the time limit that was it. She never found out what happened to her mom.. so maybe atelier yumia is made for people like me who got filtered by it.
P.s. I also tried escy and logy but I never finished it

Ryza is barely open-world and despite what /v/ says open worlds aren't inherently bad. There's just way too many shit ones.
Besides Ryza deserves to get shit on for it's shit alchemy system which is more important to the series than being linear vs open world

You know except the gameplay, the story, the characters, the visuals, the art direction, the alchemy system, the pacing, the end game any of that nah that's not important. If you can't actually speak on it's qualities and need to deflect to some weird, vague shit that has absolutely nothing to do with the actual game then it means you don't actually have this opinion. I don't believe you. In Ryza's game, maxing out the cast is really difficult because you can synthesize good enough gear to beat the game and all the extra bosses halfway there, so you really have to stall and farm mobs like an animal for no reason. If this is anything like that, you sure didn't do it in 50 hours.

Ryza blowing up in popularity was the beginning of the end. They knew they had to appeal more and more to the sudden new mainstream audience. Firis was such a janky game, I doubt any of you actually played it.
>time limit in a sprawling open world game
>90% of content is post-game, including most of your fun abilities, quest arcs and such
>retarded stamina system that makes you camp non-fucking-stop else you black out and die
>each recipe must be crafted like a dozen times to "upgrade" it before you can actually make a good item
>awful graphics, no verticality (esp noticeable once you unlock the broom, it can't actually fly up)
>no fast travel until late in the post-game
etc etc

>each recipe must be crafted like a dozen times to "upgrade" it before you can actually make a good item
These are legit complaints (plus things like the recipe idea system which is fine in theory but can be obscure to the point you miss out on basic recipes), the rest is nullified by how much time the game gives you.
>no fast travel until late in the post-game
Not quite fast travel but you can warp to camps within the same region, walk into the next one over and repeat since the beginning of the game.

all the old ones have something great about them it's entirely a matter of taste when they where all really really good. at least we all agree on what ones are not the best.

The most newcomer friendly is Ryza
If you like it, then keep going with Ryza 2 & 3
If you're sick of Ryza, then play Rorona to get the "feel" of what an Atelier game is.
Ayesha is kinda difficult and Sophie is a clunky jank fest, so they're hard to recommend.
Arland series (Rorona > Totori > Meruru > Lulua) is the best entry after Ryza.
Dusk and Mysterious Trilogies both have problems that are hard to tolerate if you aren't already an Atelier fan, so it's better to play them later.

avoid Yumia at all cost.

I'm one of the few people here that played sophie on the ps3. It had to have been running at 12 fps it was truly awful. Yumia wins just on performance alone.

I tried the first one and couldn't get into it after like 10 hours. Felt like a neverending tutorial and the story wasn't doing much for me. Seemed like a neat world though, I want to come back to it eventually
