I played for 5 hours yesterday, it felt like I was playing 5 hours of a Persona game, but ever so slightly more streamlined. At least early on it feels like an expansion pack to 5 with a new cast, new scenario, but it's all very familiar.
But there's no scheduling, no calendar, no side jobs or school clubs, it's exclusively the main quest and I guess you'll get some side stories when it finishes and you're waiting for patches, at least that's what I'd assume from the gacha part of it being a live service.
I haven't gotten far enough into the game to give a shit about swiping, all the battles have been easy so far, which lines up with Persona anyway. It's got all the style and presentation you'd expect.
There's really no reason to avoid it because of gacha unless you're a retard who compulsively spends the instant he can and has no idea how to budget or control his own finances.

P5R is 20 bucks on the steam sale though so if you haven't played that I'd say pick that up instead, but if you have played it and want more Persona then just play this and throw zero to twenty dollars into it.

It's Persona: Gacha. Similar to Dx2 being SMT: Gacha.

It's alright, but if you can't stomach Gacha-isms, you probably won't enjoy it even though it's a pretty decent Persona 5-clone. They nail the art-style (not the entire rest of the style, but I blame that on China->Japan->English translation conversions) and gameplay systems (beyond the Gacha/grind for materials)

If Atlus makes them make it an offline Persona title when it EOS's, it'd be a worthwhile/decent play.

The tutorial, like Persona 5's, is overly long. I just got the Ann party-member (the baseball girl) and unlocked the extra ("Mementos" in P5 parlance) dungeon/material grind function which was locked for like 2-3 hours.

Side jobs are probably once you finish the first Palace.

They've already stated they're on work with Persona 6. It's just Atlus is slow when it comes to that. Persona 5 was announced in 2014-2015 and it took Atlus until 2017 to release the base PS3/PS4 versions.

The first palace feels really long but it's not actually. The rooms are big and you get interrupted a lot with small dialogues and a few cutscenes. There's some optional backtracking when you get keycards and you have to craft a bunch of lockpicks if you want to get all of the treasure chests, but you can't actually fight the boss until Wonder's level is 30.

It is being made by a Chinese company but Atlus very clearly still is involved. Dx2 has been around for 7 years at this point, despite nobody ever talking about it, so I don't think this game is going anywhere unless perfect world tells Atlus they don't want Black Wing Studios on it anymore.
