That was mostly a Chris Claremont thing with his AVP: Deadliest of Species comic and the character Big Mama, who aside from being way bigger, looks no different from a regular male Predator. Some other writers have tried to create the idea that the Predator society is matriarchal, but that doesn't fit with most other depictions.
I think a lot of people miss the idea that the Predator franchise is (or at least was until recently) a very masculine story, it's males against males, it's strength and cunning.
That's why even Prey kinda works, because Naru is actively trying to engage in the more masculine roles of her tribe by hunting, but I think that was an accident on the writer's part and not really intentional.

Most of the comics tend to stay away from creating lore about the whole Predator culture. The really good ones just focus on humans in a situation that goes massively sideways because a Predator decided to get involved. Like Big Game, which is a Predator hunting around a military base, or Race War where ones decides to start hunting in a prison where two gangs are fighting, or my personal favourite Kindred, where a small town has to deal with both a Predator hunting and a serial killer that escaped federal custody that has become obsessed with the Predator as God.
