I only once in my entire life cried while playing video game. Original FFVII. I knew she was going to die, I still cried. I was around 18 back then and it was somewhere around 2005.

How the heck can you cry over a character you’ve barely known for 30 minutes, and all you know is she was the main character’s ex-girlfriend?

You don't need a long runtime to make the audience feel something towards a characters. Have you ever never watched UP?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO77YuyMOek

Within those 30 minutes the game had properly established who she was and what she meant to the MC and how he felt about her. They looked very cute and it made me wish to see them have the chance to be together.
The acting obviously helped a lot. You could see they loved one another but that there were still so many things left to be said. Loss is very relatable.

How the fuck could I have cried to characters I only met 30 seconds earlier.

Anyone who cried here is mentally unstable

The fact that E33 fans would answer yes to this question is so telling.
It really is a game for morons.

the Verso ending with all the friends from my magical adventure waving goodbye really really got me. what a beautiful moment.

I cried, but I cry easily for anything romance related.

I cried for like 10 minutes during the intro of movie Up.
Anonymous No.713846930 [Report]
I didn't cry but I could get why some people would. White people usually are emotive over shit like this.
I've never seen a brown people cry over a video game before for instance.

But in the latter's case, even if the intro of UP is also truncated. There's still enough context of the main couple's entire life, their happiness, grief, resolution etc. over 60-70 years.

Quite ironic that you call others
>subhuman NPC
when you're correlating "time spent with someone" with "capacity for empathy/sympathy".

You can feel sad for a child who's lost their parents due to an accident or someone who has to resort to eating food from the trash because they no other resources regardless of how much time you've spent with them.
In fact, lack of empathy is often a sign of autism, psychopathy and/or being indian.

but the game intro is not short, I like to explore, I spent like 15 minutes walking around and talking with everyone just for her turn into fucking dust.
Anonymous No.713847595 [Report] >>713850271
I teared up a little bit yeah, the game in general really did a good job playing with my emotions and making me care about the characters. Amazing what some actual decent writing can do for a medium.

I dont feel like we knew her well enough to justify crying about it, it was a well delivered intro that sets Gus' motivation, very quickly getting us out the door into actually playing the fucking game

both of these are pathetic emotional manipulation that only work and total retards.
Good writers make you invest in the characters without this and then destroy your joy in the characters by killing them at the end.
