XIV was the only mmo i had fun with, and even then it was only cuz i knew irl friends in it and formed a group to do stuff with them. even that didn't last long so i can't imagine playing an mmo independently. it just always feels too grindy for what feels like a basic combat system.
I guess the thrill of MMOs back then was that you developed a character in a living world, getting incrementally strong every now and then
We already have multiple immersive single player RPGs now that turned MMOs obsolete

What does it take to be the kind of person to write these articles? What has to happen to someone for them to become a gaming journalist? Sincerely asking.

They were never good and you only liked them in the past before autistic sociopaths decided all the math in every one of them to optimize everything

WOW updates happened and killed the fun out of MMO in exchange for milking as much money out of the playerbase.
Every MMO tries to copy it for the money.
Every MMO died because it's a shit that wouldn't work twice, unlike gacha.
Now every MMO is making gacha instead.

A significant amount, yes, but that's all MMOs. The issue is that Jagex is a very VERY shitty and incompetent company, unironically. They made a lot of bad choices including their aggressive monetization and player milking. They've been bought and sold multiple times now because no one wants them too. So the bots are the least of their problems.

Yes and fagex won't do anything about it because bots pay for membership either directly or through bonds
They ban a few here and there to pretend like they care but bots are a significant source of their paycheck so they won't completely nuke them

MapleStory gameplay is actually fun. Numbers go up and damage spam, with flashy effects. The problem is they've made it soulless by making you just leap in damage and levels. Progression from 1-200 is meaningless. Takes less than an hour hit "end game".

WoW released and hypercasualised the genre. It's that simple. Now no one wants any type of challenge in an MMO. No contention. No tension. They just want to afk brain and level to max. Then sit inside instanced dungeons all day at end-game.
If an MMO tries to do stuff different to WoW, people cry, because they've never played an MMO other than WoW yet expect every MMO to be like WoW.

This guy posts this thread at least once a week with the same exact ratings. Pic related is objectively the correct tier list based on popularity, quality of content, and future reliability (IE is the game going to shut down within 5 years?)

GW2 is either S tier or F tier for most people. It is extremely casual and great for people who don't have a lot of time to play. But WoW basically has endless content and there's always something to do. They're just meant for 2 different audiences imo. My tier list is for people who actually want to play the game.
